At the very tail end of EA's press conference today, id's John Carmack took the stage to give us the first look at their new game, Rage. This title will be released on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
Rage will be the first id title to be published under EA's new partnership with the company, following the example of other smaller studios like Valve (Orange Box) and Harmonix (Rock Band). This deal will give id the marketing muscle of EA, but will still provide them with the independent freedom they've always enjoyed.
We'll have to wait for QuakeCon to see more of this title, but the trailer is making the rounds now. Earlier today I said it looked to be a cross between horror, action, and racing gaming. What do you think?

Meet the rest of the team
horror, action and racing... I had to hit the link and see what this was about. Not, looks like Resident Evil meets Mad Max (although completely different art direction. It's going to need a few innovations to stand out though. Chances are good it could be generic.

There'll be no repentance...what? This isn't about the rapper. Oh, nevermind.
I'm excited. For a number of reasons, one. Those are in engine, which if you can find a higher quality trailer you'll notice a stupid amount of detail in the art, which is very new of id software (not ID, there's story behind the name). At the end of the day I'm a bit of an id fanboy and generally love what they put out. This smells like something new for id in general and it's crazy to see id put work into a story or a even an out door scene. I wouldn't count id out of the engine game either. This technology could very well dethrone UE3 and Crysis as the prettiest things out there. If there's one man who can do it, it's John Carmack.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

Hope for it to be more like Bioshock and less Doom III. :]~~
Even if its a 7 day trial look
I'm very impressed with what they're capable of with the engine as far as world building is concerned. It's definitely an artists paradise.
