Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

I wouldn't be posting about virtual water unless it was astonishing, so trust me when I say that Hydrophobia's physics-based water technology is exactly that.

I hadn't heard much about the survival-adventure game before, but apparently the storyline has you thwarting a terrorist attack on a ship the size of a city while the rest of the world is completely flooded. Also, you're character is afraid of water, hence the game's title. How convenient.

Very little of Hydrophobia has been revealed thus far, but if the effort that went into making sure the water acted realistically is anything to go by, it'll be a game to look out for.

You can find the teaser video after the break.

Yeah, pretty good I guess. I think water has a similar Uncanny Valley problem.

Fun fact: hydrophobia is another term for rabies.

I hope this technology is used in more titles... Static water is getting old in games.

Yep that definately looks like water. Anything not mind-numbing boring about this game?

Meh. I was impressed until the final seconds where the waves passed right through all the railings and floors and stuff unhindered.

Looks really nice, but we were all creaming our pants when we saw the Bioshock water, and though impressive, not that amazing.

Great a game that plays on my irrational fear of deep, dark water. Can't wait to jump in......

Seriously, I had my brother do the first part of Bioshock while I cried in the corner.

Hopefully there's a decent story in this to make it worthwhile.

We need a remake of S.O.S. now! Anyone else remembers that game? It was ahead of it's time.

@Trevor: Good god, that's some retroshit Retroforce Go! needs to cover. The lost retro games...

Like Dragon Ball for NES or the Shadowruns for SNES and Genesis.

Hyrophobia sounds like a negative perk in Bioshock, by the way. It hinders your plasmid abilites when you're standing in water.

Someone needs to throw a bucket of money at Irem so they can license this tech for the ultimate Raw Danger follow-up.

You know, we all see really cool physics demos, like water simulation and virtual destruction and skeletal animation, and I think it's great that we're actually seeing this stuff in games for real now. It was animated movie-exclusive until recently. The physics in GTA4 have me playing other games and thinking "well, he probably would have stumbled if I shot him that hard." And that video of Red Faction: Guerilla has me wet with anticipation.

However, there's nothing like flashy gimmicks without good gameplay (looking at you, BF:Bad Company)

This will surely satisfy my bizarre fetish for water physics. Bioshock's lack of (non- scripted) 3d water physics was disappointing, especially since the game had so much water in it.

@ Trevor McGee: Holy crap, I didn't know there was an English version of that game! I played a japanese ROM and was like, this game would be awesome in English, so I could figure out what the fuck I'm supposed to do. Sweet.

Eee, that's a bit shiny.

Could've been a bit longer, and the ending was a bit abrupt.
Can we see some game now please? Because as shiny as this are, I can get a graphics demo anywhere. Needs more game.

..saying that, if this actually works, brilliant :)

Hell yes there is an English version, lol. I actually bought this game for my SNES a long time ago when I was still a lad at a flea market. Ah, the good old days.
