Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

I'll come right out and say it: when the new Xbox 360 dashboard was unveiled during Microsoft's press conference yesterday, I wasn't really feeling the drastic change in design.

Yes, it's much prettier, more user-friendly, and contains some sweet new community features and Netflix integration, but it's so radically different from the current dashboard which I've grown to love over the years.

That (and the silly avatars) was my biggest concern about the upcoming update, until I saw the walkthrough video above.

Anyone who currently owns an Xbox 360 should be happy to know that the brand new Xbox guide looks almost exactly like today's dash, so you shouldn't have any navigation problems come this fall.

also, we all know it's a blantant rip off of Miis, but I give moneysoft credit for adding customization. Something Miis lack.

along with this, lets fix that Music player please? Can we get it as organized as the Zune player is? I want album covers and all that good info just like Itunes/Zune players.

I better see some a refund in themes or a choices of better theme options ala PS3. Seriously. I like adding pics of my own on the current blades, but I'd like to set a pic for each blade instead of the same ole pic. XMB or GTFO. Or at least add some color. It's rather bland.

am I the only one that thinks that MS's fascination with the "vista aero" page look is incredibly boring- at least it looks less confusing than the previous tabbed interface- and less boring than the wii channels, but I think i prefer the sony customizable xmb at this point

Im still 50-50 about the new dashboard. I kinda like the old one a little better though. So whats gonna happen to all the themes and gamer pics I have? Will they still work?

I agree with Nintendoll. Having the chance to choose which style of dashboard you want would be for the best. I can't see it being overly difficult to impliment (seeing as they're both already made...), and it would definitely help to keep everyone happy.

It looks cleaner, if not a little half-baked. Step in the right direction though.

I can't believe this hasn't been brought up but its going to be a pain in the ass to scroll through a hundred games waiting for pictures to load just so you know which one you are looking at. Right now you can see how fast the dashboard loads pictures if you try and browse any category, so making those pictures bigger, possibly animated and necessary to find what you are looking for seems risky at best.

I thought the blades were a great idea i'll be sad to see them go but mostly i'm just concerned that this will be slow.

There's still all that wasted space at the top and bottom. And I don't like how it doesn't loop at the end back to the beginning. But mostly, it's whatever.

I HATE the avatars greatly.
I HATE them when they're called the Miis.
I HATE them in that thing called HOME.

I HATE them not just on the Wii,
I HATE them on the 360,
I HATE them on the PS3.

I HATE them...HATE them...yes siree!

Jesus micro$oft, i actually respected you a little bit when you stayed the same and didnt follow with the Miis and Home, but i feel violated now. As was mentioned somewhere above, the avatars look way too happy and goofy, which is exactly why i didnt and will never buy a wii. I like serious gaming, not kiddy cartoony shit. Hate it, hopefully theres some option to stay as the "classic" theme so i can keep my sonic gamerpic. / END RANT

Please tell me I can look through the interface without having to see a gay little caricature.

As long as I can disable the avatars (I hate them in every incarnation of console UIs), I'll be greatly pleased with this update.

The current Dashboard is a cluttered wreck.

Considering how we will be able to use our old themes and gamerpics (which we should since most fucking cost money) and they look pretty sleek, and how the new guide is supposed to load more quickly, I could *possibly* deal with having to look at avatars.
My tolerance of avatars is pretty iffy, though.
