In an E3 question and answer roundtable just a few hours ago, Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that he is currently working on a new Pikmin game, presumably for the Wii.
When asked about “core titles” and whether he would be interested in ever making another Pikmin game, Miyamoto laughed and then addressed the inquiry. Avoiding a direct answer at first and questioning what a “core title” truly is, Miyamoto then suddenly, and unexpectedly, gave an honest response:
We’re making Pikmin.
The crowd at the roundtable laughed, which is an odd reaction, since I would have most likely jumped up and down and ripped off my shirt. (As you can tell, I am a huge Pikmin fan and was actually hoping for a Pikmin 3 announcement at the Nintendo press conference more than anything.)
So, it looks like it is official: a new Pikmin is coming! WOO HOO! First I get to actually meet Miyamoto (one of my heroes) and now this? Today is easily the best day EVER!

I came in second if that means anything >.>
Don't forget a new 2D Metroid!
Hell, while we're at it, Megaman 10-20, released every two months on WiiWare. After that, Capcom starts releasing, in the best of modern sprite graphics, PROTOMAN GAMES!
WOOOT!
WHY DIDN'T HE TALK ABOUT THIS STUFF AT THE CONFERENCE?!
Also, don't you think Miyamoto is a lot shorter than you think he will be? I saw him GDC a few years ago and couldn't believe how short he is.
Stop playing to the press basically. None of the grannies or soccer moms you assume the Wii's primary audience to be are tracking the E3 coverage as obsessively as your core fanbase are.
I really hope they have something more to show (or say!) at TGS on it.
I actually thought the controls in Okami were very good, but well, whatever.
I'm happy as fuck to know about this, i just don't understand why he didnt mention it at the conference.
If he had talked about this, Madworld and the other third party titles coming out, like Mushroom and The Conduit, and more about the "Zelda & Mario teams are working", the conference would have been so much better.
[7:36 PDT The next questioner asks about Nintendo's commitment to core titles, and asks if Miyamoto is still interested in making another Pikmin, something he's mentioned in the past.
7:36 PDT Eguchi asks what a "core user" is supposed to be. His own definition is someone who likes games, whatever they like to play. That's who he makes games for, and he says all games regardless of genre have the potential to appeal to the core, and the people who play his games are his core users.
7:37 PDT Miyamoto stands up and starts to leave the stage, which draws laughs. After sitting back down, he gets to the Pikmin question. He talks about sitting as close as possible to his staffers, some who worked on Zelda and Pikmin. He refers to Eguchi's answer and says "core games" is just as mercurial a term as "core gamers," then says they continue investigating all types of games.
7:37 PDT "So when it's time to announce such a title, I'll announce it. So please look forward to it."
7:38 PDT He adds, "We're making Pikmin."]
A minute after he gave a typical PR "when it's done," he just blurts out "OH YEAH WE MAKIN PIKMANS!"
saying that would have saved their whole pressconference :-D
I was a Nintendo fanboi all the way up untill the Wii was born... I just thought "WTF?", I hate everything about it and it broke my heart as I loved my Snes & N64 for the quality of games.
Motion control... urgghhh! I'm fat, lazy & proud.
I don't think Miyamoto showed it off is probably because they may have just started work on it, had he started a couple months earlier we could of had a trailer and the conference would have been better received.
Non-Pikmin related question: Was I the only one hoping they would have shown off Sam & Max when they were talking about third party support? I genuinely thought they would show it, it seems like something Miyamoto would enjoy in my opinion.
Back to running around without a shirt!
Oh rapture! Oh joy! Oh.....I need to change my pants, now :(
I really don't understand what happened during the press conference. Perhaps it was too frightening for casual players to have any of the big Nintendo franchises mentioned.
The golden Super Sayain Pikmin. It punches holes through those buck-toothed ladybug frogs.
