Dynasty Warriors & Samurai Warriors make sweet love to produce bastard child photo

Koei is known for two things - repetitive, number crunching strategy games set in ancient China and repetitive, button mashing action games set in ancient China. I have always been a huge fan of the latter, a follower of the Dynasty Warriors series for many years. Perhaps follower is a little too light - more like a devout worshipper, ensnared by the endless, mindless hack n' slash madness, terrible voice acting and hair metal soundtrack. I naturally swallowed up the Japanese Samurai Warriors spin-off as well (even if the first one was crap), shamelessly buying the same damn games over and over. Sadly, it seems my enslavement to the almighty button basher is to continue unabated, as Koei has announced a western release date for its Dynasty/Samurai Warriors crossover, Orochi Warriors.

The Omega Force developed title will see characters from both the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors universes thrust together through the nefarious work of a time meddling demon by the name of Orochi. As with all titles in this ridiculously overstuffed series, minimal changes will be made to the gameplay. Despite the gimmick of merging both titles together, Koei is sure to provide us with more of the same outside of new, minor updates such as the ability to create teams of three generals that you can switch between at will and a feature that allows one to 'fuse' weapons together to create new and powerful attacks.

But this is what long time fans of the series, myself included, happily expect from a Koei action game - that same old garbage. It's trash gaming, but we like it that way. Due for the PS2 and Xbox 360 on September 18, my only wish is that Koei and Omega Force stop making last-generation games and give me my outdated button mashing with shiny, new-gen graphics.

So are they about to do it in that picture or is this after the sweet loving?

Jim, I cannot agree with you more. Time after time I find myself paying my hard-earned money for more of the same from Koei. I just love these games so dang much, the little improvements each round are plenty for me.

A fusion of these two series, sadly, excites me. It'll be great to have them in one place. Ah, well... guess I get to buy more of the same! Cheers!

I'm bored of Koei. Let's talk about Phantom Hourglass. Got a 39 from Famitsu.

Also, I got my Dynasty Warriors fill by playing a demo for DW2 for a couple of hours. I think I played pretty much all the series has to offer.

You mean PS3 and 360, right?

Yeah, a few friends of mine were really big into Dynasty Warriors way back when 3, 4, and 5 were on the PS2. I bought [i}Samurai Warriors [/i]and had lots of fun with it, too...so I may check this out.

The Brain: I believe Orochi is a demon in Japanese folklore. It's no surprise he'd show up in two games.

Wario67: It was mostly the insane imbalance of the first that drove me nuts. When you levelled up, enemies would become INSANELY difficult. Plus it was possible to "screw over" your characters with the skill system and have to reset them. These issues were, however, fixed in Samurai Warriors 2, a game I find superior to the first one.

No I don't. Like Samurai Warriors 2 and DW5 Empires, it's due for release on the PS2 and the 360, not the PS3.

Its like all my dreams have come to fruition and theres no point living after this. *commits sepukku*

OK maybe a little dramatic - But as long as this has Kotarou from SW and Xiaou Dun from DW this game is going to rock. Just one Q:How are they crossing the two over? Isnt DW set in China and SW set in Japan?

Jim Sterling writes about stuff other than controversial European bans and banning attempts? Who knew?

Silverhertz: I explained that in the article. Orochi is a time meddling demon cunt who messes with chronology, bringing the two periods together.

Holy crap. 77 characters?! That's gonna be a helluva lot of gameplay to unlock everyone's ultimate weapons...

Ah, well. At least I'll get my money's worth!

Well other than being old news, it's nice to have a final release date (we hope).

I, too, spend countless hours playing these KOEI hack-and-slash games with my wife. We are proud of our 200+ hours on Samurai Warriors 2. Hehehe... Bring it on, KOEI.

Great. Another game where you mash one button and all you hear is "Hup, hup, huah!" over and over again.

N3 is also classic.
