Dynasty Warriors 7 weapon system explained

One thing that's worried me about Dynasty Warriors 7 is the feeling that every character will have the same moveset thanks to the fact that weapons can be shared amongst them. We've been chatting with lead producer about Akihiro Suzuki, who was kind enough to explain the weapon system in more detail.

"Unlike Strikeforce, each character will have unique moves for their proper weapons," explained Suzuki. "If characters equip that weapon, they will be able to execute an EX Attack with it.  Characters will also have two unique Musou Attacks for their proper weapon giving them more of a personality rather than having generic characters that can use any weapon.

"Alongside this we have also personalized each weapon in the sense that each weapon will have different effects with their switch-weapon attacks.  We have given weapons two different switch weapon attacks as well as EX Attacks so that players can choose which weapon they want to use in battle.  Trust me when I say that there will be a lot to choose from!"

So, each character will have two special attacks and an EX Attack, plus different weapon combos will yield new moves. That certainly sounds better. While I'm still not a big fan of being able to spread weapons around like a Belgian trollop, it seems each character will still be strongly associated with their principal armament, and that's good enough for me.

Oh, and I also took the liberty of asking about the best weapon Dynasty Warriors 6 ever gave us, and whether we'd see it in DW7. Unfortunately, Suzuki was far less forthcoming about confirming the possible return of Sima Yi's epic fingerwhips:

"This is a tricky one to answer ... you’ll just have to wait and see."
