Responding to significant fan demand, Tecmo Koei has announced that Dynasty Warriors 7 will be receiving a Japanese voice track option as a free downloadable content update. In addition, a range of extra costumes will be provided at no extra cost.
The publisher confirmed that paid DLC -- consisting of new stages and weapons -- is on the way, with prices yet to be determined.
Warriors fans typically have a hard-on for the Japanese voices, though I don't get it myself. Samurai Warriors Chronicles doesn't have an English voice option at all and I've found it's made battles hard to concentrate on, since you need to keep reading objectives rather than playing the game. Nevertheless, this is still a cool little extra, and it'll be worth checking out just for the novelty.
Oh, and to the guy who happily thought I'd have to stop writing about Dynasty Warriors 7 now that the game's been reviewed and released ... HAHA@YOU! Dynasty Warriors is forever.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Probably not, but it would be funny if it did. I could use a laugh.
That being said, the Japanese voices are a welcomed feature!
Anyone, nice to hear this. It sways me more into buying this as I've been dying for a good Dynasty Warriors type game for awhile.
but arnt voice files pretty large? i mean shank was huge(2gb dlc game that was short and lacking features) mainly cause of the voice over work wasnt it?
It depends on the quality and the compression of the audio files. The old rough guide with MP3s was to expect about 1 minute per 1mb of stereo music, at least before bandwidth and harddrives increased to the point that lossless compression started catching on. But different formats can give you either better or worse compression for the same audio quality. And voice work would presumably be recorded in mono, unless the scenes are recorded and mixed together beforehand? (On the other hand, if you record everything individually and then mix it at runtime, then you might have multiple audio files running concurrently.)
That said, free DLC is always a nice touch.
more games should do this. especially JRPG's
though I do miss America pronouncing Tsao Tsao like Cow Cow. But they still pronounce the "Pi" part in Cao Pi like Pee when it's "Pei"
XD Dynasty Warriors forever!
At any rate, thank you Tecmo-Koei for giving weeaboo trolls another reason to not shut the fuck up about Japanese VOs.
I agree with Jim, its kinda hard to make your way through Samurai Warriors Chronicle with an English text overlay to read what you need to do next, particularly given that you're busy attending to time-based objectives and can't always be able to pause to read. Since I don't know Japanese, the VO accompanying English text isn't helping.
An English VO would have been infinitely more helpful than keeping the Japanese VO.
Why would a Japanese game have Chinese language voiceovers? The German characters in American WW2 movies always speak English unless they're nameless grunts with no real dialogue.
And Jim WINS. Well done sir!
they should have been included it on disc at the first place tough!
i know that you are never going to read this, but there are plenty of american films where characters speak another language.
