Dynasty Warriors 6 image and info palooza photo

On a whim, I decided to check out the lovely KOEI resource site, KOEI Warriors and saw that over the weekend, those fine followers of all things hack n' slash have put up a veritable treasure trove of goodies for the Dynasty Warriors cult on Destructoid to drool over. Dynasty Warriors 6's official site launched just yesterday and with it came a few tidbits of information alongside screenshots and a few CG artworks of the traditionally reimagined characters. From the looks of things, the cast members have undergone some dramatic facelifts since the last sequel, moreso than usual. Check out the new-look Lu Bu, I think you'll agree he's considerably more epic than ever before. Also of note to fellow DW buffs are the silver-maned Sun Jian and a rather emo-haired Xiahou Dun.

Along with the new screenshots, the KOEI Warriors have a tiny slice of information regarding the game's new focus on player freedom. 'Renbu' is the apparent name of DW6's new system, and it's being said that not only does the chance exist for limitless combo opportunities, you'll be given the ability to create your own moveset as well. Some of the images also hint at new gameplay elements, with shots of Zhao Yun climbing a ladder (yes, it's a first for the series) and appearing to swim. Of course, hearing something about online multiplayer and an Xbox 360 release would be even more interesting to me, but I'll take what I can get. Now excuse me while I sit in the corner and be very, very excited for this game.

Still looks like the lame, old graphics engine used for the previous games, too...

I hope they add a little variety to the buttonmashing formula I loved on the ps2. I wanted to play Gundam on the ps3 for eternity but I got tired fast, I hope they speed it up a notch too

Yeah. It looks superior to Dynasty Warriors 5, pal.

I think you are too blinded by the win to see it.

Um, if it wouldn't look superior to DW5, I'd feel ashamed for Koei because I believe they can deliver quality if they want to.

This doesn't change the fact that it still isn't worthy of a "next-gen" logo visually. It's the same fucked up engine in hi-res with boring models and environments.

Heck even N3 looks superior to this game which is released what, 1 or 2 years later.

Whatever. Don't get me wrong, I like the DW games and the simplicity in the gameplay, but they could spend some time on developing an up to date graphics engine.

Hiding it will not change the truth Jim.

Shah ... you must be new here, right? Just sit back, settle down and go with the flow.

In other news, the President of the United States of America just awarded Dynasty Warriors 6 the "President's Choice" award for "Most amount of ass kicked by a game that he has played".

N3 showed us how you can fuck up a Dynasty Warriors clone. First, you remove horses. Then, you set the walking speed to that of the average player who can enjoy it: 78 with Parkinson's. Finally, you remove Zhou Yun. Tadaaaaa: failure.

DW6 will indeed be the greatest game ever made, because it has horses and Zhou Yun. It will also allow me to marry Jim Sterling.

Meh, I enjoyed the first one, but they're just fucking beating a dead horse with this series now. It hasn't been very fun or interesting since the first one for me, so what's so different about this one? Slightly more impressive looking and perhaps more enemies on screen? Whooptie doo. Not worth it.

Btw Jim, I once tried to get into the chinese tv-series of Romance of the Three Kingdoms. But they didn't sub the locations nor the poems... Which made it feel like Dynasty Warriors' storytelling. Maybe one day they will redo it in HD though.
In the mean time, we will have John Woo's Dynasty Warriors 6 The Movie!!!!

Fuck yes! Ancient China, I have returned!

This was originally built to be a PS3 game (I remember the announcement a couple years ago), but it will most certainly see a 360 release. I wouldn't be surprised if they hit simultaneously over here in the States, much like DW:Gundam will.

I'd prefer 360, too. And, don't be ashamed of the KOEI love, Jim. Embrace it! Those whiners can bitch about repetitive gameplay all they like. Is it really that different from picking attack options off a menu? Most games feature repetitive gameplay. At least in this you get to mow down thousands of peons in style :D

Also, I can't believe KOEI ACTUALLY made Lu Bu even more frightening. I didn't think it was possible. I already scream with absolute panic and agony, soiling myself when he appears as it is.

They BETTER expand the game past 234 AD. We need Deng Ai vs. Jiang Wei. And Ding Feng. And aw crap it's already happened, I'm gonna troll DW message boards for months now. :(

Come to think of it, it does sound hilarous, I love all musuo games up to musou orochi, seeing this makes me extremely excited. I will get last lvl weapons if lvl 4 aint last, and all status up item maxed. I love the way how i can use upgrade items on an untrain character, make them extremely strong in the beggining.
You know, I dont think I can ever get sick of any musuo games for the rest of my gaming life.

I agree with you here Jim, this is definitely the next-gen attempt. DW5 wasn't really all that impressive (I have the empires one for 360) graphically, and empires is alwasy a little different than the originals. But this and DW:G are gonna make my wallet squeal like a piggy.

And dibs on Sun Ce. Tonfa ownage!!
