Dynasty Warriors 6 heads to PS2, de-clones some characters photo

My brain is leaking while trying to find the logic in all of this, but Koei is planning to release Dynasty Warriors 6 on the PlayStation 2, and it's actually going to be better than the PS3/Xbox 360 versions. Yes, the first current-gen Dynasty Warriors is going to be superior on last-gen technology.

Not even I can defend this one.

Billed as Dynasty Warriors 6: Special, the main draw here is that some of the shockingly rampant cloning from DW6 is being taken out. So far, it's clear that Cao Pi, Ling Tong and Ma Chao will actually have their own weapons, movesets and musou modes, instead of being carbon copies of other characters.

I'm all for de-cloning. The cloning in DW6 was absolutely appalling (some characters were copied three times over) and if I'd have known it was that bad, I would have been more harsh toward the game. With that in mind, I still can't understand why more effort is being put into the PS2. At the very least, I would like to see some sort of DLC address the clone issue for the Xbox 360/PS3 version. Apparently that's not how Koei plays ball.

This is all backwards moon logic to me.

That is pretty weird. Maybe they just see the larger install base?

Japan seems to still have an assload of PS2 users. The economy over there is in pretty bad shape, and a lot of gamers still don't have PS3s, opting instead to play games for older consoles.

Hence, why there are still PS2 RPGs being released there.

There's actually a certain model that was cloned 5 times. I think it was Lu Meng, Guan Ping, Ling Tong, Zhang He, and Xu Huang were all clones of each other. Which is just terrible.

And yeah, this is absolutely baffling.

I see absolutely no logic behind this.

I see no logic either. However, only having a PS2, I approve =X.

I think we're just about done with Dynasty Warriors. Especially PORTS of Dynasty Warriors. As if all of them we're just ports of the older ones except shinier.

Someone should de-clone the nimrods who keep buying these tired games. The series has not improved at all. It's the same old boring mess every time.

Sure, DW are just shinier ports of each other, but so are Madden games. For some reason, "nimrods" keep buying those "tired" games though. Why do you suppose that is?

it's people like you I laugh at because you obviously don't dwell deep into the gameplay enough. Your like saying fighters are all the same and the only thing changing is graphics.

seriously people. If you're going to hate the DW/SW/beat em up genre so much, at least come up with a decent defense. At least something not as wrong as "the games never change."

Dear Mr.Sterling.
It's not that hard to understand the logic in this move. A lot of Japanese people have a PS2 and not that many have a PS3/Xbox 360. So re releasing popular titles on a PS2.

DW on the PS2 ... why not ... anyway except Sterling who cares about this game

I love people who bash DW. Most of 'em are hypocrites when they do. "Oh no every game is the same," cool, I'll just be taking these copies of Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker away from you.

This is why I abandoned the series after the 3rd game. I'm tired of Koei's shit. Rereleases and revamps of the same game for the same $60. Now this is a new one though. Downgrade a game, add a few new things to it, and expect addicted gamers to shell out another $60. I call shenanigans!

I have no problem with Beat 'em ups, as long as they contain a bit of depth. the DW series has as much depth as a mud puddle.

Whats wrong with the "game never changes" defense anyway? It's true, and its THE major problem with the game. If you played one Dynasty Warriors, you have played them all(literally) EA adds more to Madden than Koei does to the DW games. On this rare occasion Electronic Arts is the lessor of two evils.

"I have no problem with Beat 'em ups, as long as they contain a bit of depth. the DW series has as much depth as a mud puddle. "

I disagree. With leveling up, hidden items and a cast of over 70 characters, it has more depth than any other game in the brawler genre.

"Whats wrong with the "game never changes" defense anyway?"

Nothing, it's just hypocrisy is all. I don't really care if you like the game or hate it, I enjoy it and that's fine, but it's people making inaccurate criticisms that make me laugh. The game changes about as much as any major game franchise does. As far as I'm concerned, Wind Waker was pretty much the same game as Ocarina of Time. Doesn't stop me loving both though.

leveling and items does not equal depth. Out of 70 playable characters, how many give a unique play experience? which characters allow you to step away from the mindless button mashing this series is known for?

I understand liking a game(even bad ones for quirky reasons), but I don't understand liking it enough to buy it again at full price.

Okay. I planned on getting a PS3 soon, but I guess I'll get this on PS2 nonetheless. And also, knocking DW for being repetitve but fun trash, while championing Halo despite it being repetitve, but fun trash is grossly hypocrtical in my book.
