Ah, God bless my beloved Koei Warriors. Those dedicated followers of all things Koei have pointed me in the direction of this three part video (courtesy of GameInformer) which shows much more of the biggest cultural event since Dio's Holy Diver, AKA Dynasty Warriors 6.

In the above video and the two that follow, Koei's Jarik R. Sikat (who I can confirm is a lovely man, having spoken to him) walks us through three fully redesigned characters and talks a little about the new direction for Dynasty Warriors 6. Yes, to the untrained (stupid) eye, it's the same old garbage, but look! Unlimited combos, do you see? Duels, do you see? I don't care what the plebians say, the new duel system looks classy as anything to me. Do you see!?

Yet again, the enemy AI is mentioned, and yet more promises of improvements are heard. The idea of the enemy recognizing and acting upon your tactics after prolonged use certainly promises a far more thoughtful experience than previous efforts, but we'll have to see if it's a genuine feature or a shallow gimmick that only works cosmetically. Still, attack boats for the win!

Hit the jump for the other two videos. Do you SEE!?

VGWTI: Hi, you must be new. You'll learn I cover Koei games to an unhealthy degree here, much to the chagrin of a large chunk of readers. :-)

Yea, I'm fairly new. It's good to know that one of the editors is a Koei fan.

Also, this game is looking damned good.

Unlimited combos?

So now it really IS a button mashing game.

Haw, I'm jes messin'. While I'd never idolize DW and Koei to the point of Sterling's obsession, I will admit the game is damn fun to play. Sure, the battle system is shallow and the story has remained the same for years, but as long as you're having fun, who cares?

I'm hoping you give us some kind of review for this one Jim. I only trust Dynasty Warrior reviews from fans of the series... Although I'm not sure it's necessary, I'm going to get it regardless, it looks fantastic.

YOU CAN CLIMB LADDERS AND SMASH GATES!!! This is truly the age of Next Gen gameplay

This is looking pretty damn good. Been a huge KOEI fan since I played the first Romance game on the Nintendo.

I really wish they would start releasing their other damn series over here for a change. How long must I wait for the other Uncharted Waters Koei?! How long!

Oh and Guan Yu is god. (He really is)

Dear Lord, I can't believe I actually got excited by watching a video for a Goddam DW game. It feels like I accidently got a boner watching a football match or something.

Btw, unlimited combos for the epic win.

So uh, apparently they re-did their characters.
I like how he slowed down when he was mentioning ladders.
And smashing the gate showing no damage.
But, I'm still playing this.

Chagrin away, non-believers!

This is an epic find, Mr. Sterling, and I salute you as always for your ceaseless coverage of the ultimate game series. Top drawer, sir. Top drawer.

The duels were NOT one of the popular features of DW 4. Everyone hated them and I'd hoped they'd never come back.

This game still looks awesome though.

Why haven't you ever said anything about Orochi Warriors Jim?

I didn't care about Dynasty Warriors before watching these videos, and now that I've watched them, I care even less. I don't think Koei has ever made a game I've been interested in, which is kinda incredible in itself considering their expansive library, albeit half of which is Romance of the Three Kingdoms or some iteration thereof.

Too bad the videos are compressed as dick fuck, I would be able to see more if I had my eyes gouged out and replaced with superballs.

I guess I just don't get it. Everyone talks about how stagnant American games are and how original Japanese games are. This is a good example to refute that claim. I feel like I've already played this game a million times.

MuadDib: how yan you say it's stagnant? I mean, it only took them nine games to finally notice that climbing ladders, swimming and opening gates without running around a stronghold for 15 minutes looking for a goddamn gatekeeper, would be a wise addition to the gameplay.

You can CLIMB LADDERS?! That's never been done in a game before!

Wait, what? A game came out in 1981 that featured a plumber who climbed ladders in order to rescue his kidnapped girlfriend from a gorilla? Oh...

jk, this looks pretty cool. Too bad I don't have a 360 or PS3, and I probably won't until they're Wii priced... so, around the time Dynasty Warriors XIII comes out. ;)
