Dyack says 2009 is the end of the videogame 'golden age' photo

Everybody is currently feasting upon cloud computing's nuts at the moment, with services such as OnLive promising a streaming videogame experience that could change the world forever. Dyack is a firm believer in the power of such cloudy chicanery, predicting that it could signal the end of the "golden era of videogames" and usher in a new dawn.

"2009 may be the end of the golden era of video games as the first cloud models for games are announced," he states. The Too Human creator believes that cloud computing will end the tyrannical rule of second-hand games and piracy. So confident is Dyack in the power of this voodoo, he even discounts the issue of lag, claiming that all it would take for lag to disappear would be for hardware to be installed in every major city in the world. Is that all?!

Don't worry though, Dyack and his crack team of Too Human developers aren't ready to abandon consoles just yet: "Silicon Knights will continue to do console games as long as they're profitable."

Thank Christ for that!

If this is the Golden Age we're doomed. I guess the creator of one of the biggest gaming let-downs of the decade would know.

Cloud gaming will never be successful. People like mods, people like owning things in their own home, people like trading games back in. And most people aren't too fond of Too Human.

@Freefall agree in all topics.
Cloud gaming would have a chance in 20 years maybe. with new technology and all other stuff they need for perfect streaming quality to enjoy the games. And games are always profitable. As long as it is worth to buy them. I heard some ppl saying (when first direct download services came out) that RETAIL BOXES/PHYSICAL MEDIUMs are dead too. But that still not happend.
(*_*) (*_*) (*_*) We love to get physical (*_*) (*_*) (*_*)

The Golden Age of Video Games will never end. There's always someone who says eveything will be a failure and video games will die whenever something new happens but there's always thousands more people who don't get on their high horse and just play some freaking games.

Home Consoles = GAMING IS DEAD!
Home Computers = GAMING IS DEAD!
Online Gaming = GAMING IS DEAD!
Handhelds = GAMING IS DEAD!
Video Game Crash = The ONLY reasonable one here!
8-Bit = GAMING IS DEAD!
Power Glove = GAMING IS DEAD!
Arcade Deline = GAMING IS DEAD!
16-Bit = GAMING IS DEAD!
Sega Activator = GAMING IS DEAD!
3D consoles = GAMING IS DEAD!
Sony joins in with the Playsation = GAMING IS DEAD!
Dance Dance Revolution = GAMING IS DEAD!
Console FPSs = GAMING IS DEAD!
The NGage = GAMING IS DEAD!
Mircosoft creates Xbox = GAMING IS DEAD!
Online Consoles = GAMING IS DEAD!
Casual Gaming increase = GAMING IS DEAD!
Guitar Hero = GAMING IS DEAD!
SEGA becomes third party = GAMING IS DEAD!
Nintendo DS has touch screen = GAMING IS DEAD!
Sony makes handheld PSP = GAMING IS DEAD!
Nintendo Wii uses motion control = GAMING IS DEAD!
OnLive = GAMING IS DEAD!

The people complain. ALOT! Although I'm not going to be an early adopter to this as I hate ALL subscription fees I may check this out eventually if there becomes a way to have a one off fee. I personally will not buy a console just to pay to use that console.

Nice comments all around, 'specially you GoldenGamer, but I have to agree with Bigmoose85, the golden age already came and went, it was called the SNES. Oh and I guess Sega did something too around that time.

Atually the On Live logo on the console is an anagram for "No Evil" so there's no bad omens there =]

Doesn't OnLive pretty much do the same thing The Phantom was supposed to do? I don't see why people expect this thing to succeed, let alone change the industry.

Also, what GGX said.

And remind me why should we listen to you, Too Human is one of the worst games available for the console and puts the esteemed "Silicon Knights" to shame. You have no credibility in my eyes, only those who have been successful can express an opinion and expect people to listen.

So explain to me again why the video game industry feels it's above "second-hand games" when almost every other product in the world, from CDs to movies to cars to iPods, are resaleable by the owner of the said product?

*sigh*

What CaptainBus said.

The world doesnt work that way. Just because there is a new way to play/distribute games doesn't mean that the other methods are dead. Distribution will just get more complex. When netflix came along people didn't stop going to the cinema (that's the example Eskil Steenberg used on the latest GWJ podcast).

@ Freefall:

The last mod I used was for Doom, I don't want any more crap in my home, I rarely trade games in. I guess I'm not "people"

Having said that, I thought Too Human boring, so at least I am "most people".
