We first talked about Dust: An Elysian Tail a few months ago, where we called it "Odin Sphere for Furries." However, please do not let this game's furry leanings put you off, because Dust is so gorgeous, I'm having trouble believing it will appear on the Xbox 360's Indie Games Channel instead of Xbox Live Arcade, especially with this new trailer.
It's a sidescrolling brawler at heart, with a storyline based on an animated feature film currently being created by Dean Dodrill. Despite its status as an XNA-developed game, Dust has amazing hand-drawn graphics and fluid animation. The gameplay also looks like some solid, traditional beat 'em up action as well, which just so happens to be among my favorite types of gameplay.
We'll continue to keep an eye on Dust, as it could truly become the breakout Indie Game on the 360 platform, and truly show others just what XNA is capable of. It'll be a damn sight better than Kitchen Sink Wars, of that I can be certain.

Oh man, I'm gonna buy this game so hard it'll still feel it next Tuesday. Who gives a shit about any furry connection when the game looks and plays like that?
A much-deserved tip-of-the-hat to Mr. Sterling for bringing this game into my life.
The similarities to Muramasa are striking. Just replace ninjas with furry ninjas!
That being said, looking like Muramasa will hopefully be a good thing.
how much do you want to bet microsoft is gonna pounce on this and turn it into an XBLA title, just to charge us some more money. Or maybe this is exactly what they want to give the indie games channel a boost. Hope its the latter.
"the whole dark and serious furry thing is leaving me really conflicted."
This was my biggest problem with Odin Sphere actually. The juxtaposition of Vanillaware's trademarked borderline lolicon art style with a story tailor-made for melodramatic emo kids really irks me. Odin Sphere's gameplay was extremely tight, but the melodramatic story and characters are ultimately what made me stop playing that game before I finished it. I love the visuals this trailer is showing off, and the gameplay looks solid, but why the story and the furry-meets-Moe character design really rubs me the wrong way. Unlike Dragon Age: Origins' Morrigan, who I'm sure will rub me the right way.
What's the deal with the run animation? Everything else looks so great but that run just looks retarded. Like sent off to kindergarten with a football helmet and padded suit retarded.
I'll probably hate the storyline, characters, and combination of deep dark storyline with cheerful animal characters, but hot damn that does look pretty.
Worth a shot, at least, since the gameplay still looks interesting.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
To bad I'll never play this game unless it comes to PC.
Seriously though, this looks incredible. Being an Indie game, it also can't cost more than 400 points! That's incredible.
When it becomes available for peer review, I'll be sure to check it out and post impressions in my cblog.

When is this game available?!?
Also, I was gonna make a "Doesn't look like BlazBlue" joke but, actually...
That being said, looking like Muramasa will hopefully be a good thing.

Plus, maybe if this does well, we can convince Epic to go back and hire him to help make a third Jazz Jackrabbit game.
