They sure are confident in the future of the game. I wish I was. Although anything free will usually get at least some sort of ongoing community.
I've been following this game recently and it really looks FANTASTIC. It seems that it will have strong dev support and could be a solid long term shooter game for the PS3. I love that it's FREE - no game cost, no monthly fees, no nothing. Apparently the microtransaction purchases you can make are simply shortcuts for those that don't have the time, but want some of the higher level goodies.
I also really like how the PC Eve players will have a big role in the PC game, including the orbital strikes during a Dust game... very interesting premise!

Hey I didn't even realize that this was going to be "free" to play. Perhaps the most inviting word in the English language. Very intriguing...Also it is absolutely insane that there are integrating an already robust online community from a different platform into a different genre on a home console! KUDOS
I guess I misunderstood, as I thought after last year's E3 that this was going to be a full fledged Vita game and not just a social app. I'm a little bit disappointed to find out that isn't the case but it's cool. I'll still play.

Dust 514 proper will be a completely free to play AAA FPS on the PS3.
The Vita part will be a way to interact with the universe in every way be it chatting, managing skills, fitting, checking the market and so on. The only thing you won't be able to do is go into combat.

That's primarily why I plan to play the PS3 version. I really want this game on my Vita and I figure the more people playing, the more likely they are to make that cross-platform thing a reality.
