"HEY, BUY A $.50 HAT AND GO PREMIUM, WE'LL GIVE YOU ANOTHER HAT! HATS HATS HATS HATS HAAAAAATS!
If that's the case, I'm okay with having to drop 10-20 bucks of in game credits to play then.
If the game itself costs anything, then forget about it.
Then charge $10 for the game on the PSN...
Hmmmmm...this is kind of fishy. There are two types of F2P games - the kind that allow you to technically get by without paying (TF2), and the kind that string you along and essentially force you to pay (Dragon Age Legends). I hope this is the former.
In other news, WHY NOT JUST CHARGE 15 BUCKS?
$10-20 Sounds much better to me.
Lately I've been totally sick of Sci Fi shooters, but this sounds interesting enough to lure me back.
Sorry but just sounds kinda retarded to me.
For people that want to play this, sounds like an even better deal to me.
Just sell the damn game for 20 bucks and save yourself the grief this is going to cause.
... so confusing.
Why not just say that there's a $10-20 purchase cost that is reimbursed with in-game currency to get players started (so you can purchase weapons and stuff for you loadout) and from there nothing else involves real world currency unless otherwise dictated by a pure consumer choice of spending more on the game?
Not that I care really, Id never heard about this game before now and I wont remember it by tomorrow.
However, I am worried that this is setting itself up for a money-trap MMO scheme - similar to Dragon Age Legends, where you basically have to pay to keep playing. Free to Play games launch all the time for free without having some sort of sleazy way to get you to pay upfront to "upkeep servers". I think they're trying to get you to buy into their ecosystem, and trap you upfront.
Yep! There are a ton of different models, but [bad] Free to Play games are the worst. See this comic:
http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2011/6/10/.
I'd rather just take a flat $15 a month subscription fee (like WoW), and KNOW for sure I'm getting 100% of the game.
Not, "$15 for this ammo pack!" "$15 for this character pack!" $15 for this level pack!" "$15 for extra 'energy cells', so you can play the game more!" Oh, did we neglect to tell you that regular play will exhaust all these purchases in less than a month? Too bad!
But now it is a $10-$20 dollar game that I buy from the PS store? Sounds good to me! Though I am worried about how many times I will have to buy things, like Elsa said.
PS: I don't get why they don't just say it is a $10 dollar game...
Are there any "good" F2P games? I've never played one that wasn't a constant sales pitch. And they usually use "free" as an excuse to be kind of shitty. Despite not actually being free. I much prefer the "Lite/Premium" business model.
I want this game, and will get it for PS3, but I care about my xbox account a lot more than my PS3 account (...that sounds very fanboy-ish, and creepy and weird, oh well), but if I get it for PS3 and play it a lot (which I predict) then I won't want to switch to xbox if it ever comes out for is... sad.
