Dungeon Fighter Online goes into Closed Beta photo

As the launch of the Closed Beta of Nexon America's newest free-to-play MMORPG, Dungeon Fighter Online, drew closer, I found myself still interested in the game but wondering if it would push all my MMO buttons. Meaning, the ones that make me quit after dumping countless hours of my life into an MMO and realizing that I'm technically not getting anywhere (unless you count getting somewhere as an eternity of grinding). But it boasted the 2D sidescrolling look that I'm so fond of! I still wanted to try it.

I got a closer look at Dungeon Fighter Online at this year's Comic-Con, and it got me thinking there's a reason thousands of overseas gamers have flocked to it time and time again. We'll be participating in the newly launched Closed Beta, so we'll be bringing you some impressions of the game very soon. Do you automatically disregard any MMO that's free to play, or has one ever captured your interest?

What ever happened to the overlord 2 contest? Did it just die or something?

I've played Nexon MMO's before, and they lost appeal quick, cuz they got all grindy. It's free, so I might give it a shot, but I honestly doubt it'll be anything I'll get really into.

I played NeoSteam for quite some time until some other team screwed me out of a hard to find spawn instead of just sharing it, despite my asking them profusely. (you don't lose any of your share of anything for sharing in that game. It would have just let me complete a difficult quest.)

I thought Shin Megami Tensei Imagine was a great free to play MMO. I've put a good deal of time into that one. If only the game itself felt more community friendly and a little less lonely it could've dragged me away from WoW. Great art style, enjoyable game play mechanics but possibly a little more room for improvement in the randomly generated instance department. Either way, wish more people would get into that one.

"Over 9000!" creator Kajet has a funny/useful bug report video about the beta.

2d side scrolling MMO? That's actually nice. I guess there are too many 3d MMO's out there already.

I got into the closed beta. It's not very good solo, but with two or three party members it's way better. My favorite part so far is the fatigue points which prevent you from over-grinding your characters up. There's not a whole lot to it so far, but I haven't gotten a chance to check out any of the advanced classes.

i hate nexon, I've been with them since 03 when maple story started don,t get invited and or accepted into any of their betas, and I've been with them since the literal beginning for them. on the other hand i signed up for areia games at their launch to and get invited to every beta, and i sometimes get rewards to. they just dont seem to have customer loyalty, though the game does look good.

I'm in CB and I'll be damned if I don't want to play this game ALL THE TIME.

Grapplan, Slamman, Foightan to victory... a few localization errors and no easy way to skip dialogue.

Blah, if they treat it like they did maple story I would pass quickly. Most of their games follow a similar pattern. Awesome when you first start, nothing but a grind in the later levels, can't even play the damn thing without spending cash.

Fatigue meter is conscience in a bar.

"Forces" you not to grind your knuckles white. Fun stuff nonetheless

I've already played this in a Korean server using an area hack and it is fun. Too bad it was in Korean. You can't blame for this guys: at the time, this game was only available in Korea and Japan.
