Did you ever think you would live to see this day? Duke Nukem Forever has a release date, and that date is May 3, 2011. No jokes, no illusions, that is an actual release date you are seeing for history's most famous phantom game.
This is the North American release date for the game. The rest of the world can pick it up on May 6.
This is hot news all round. I am still in shock from personally laying hands on the game, but the fact that it's been given a solid date now makes it all the more real. Truly this has been one of the most bizarre development cycles this industry has ever seen. It's almost sad to think that it's nearly over.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Awesome
*pre orders*
Bet you Jim will give this a 4.5. If he doesn't, I 'll.....do something.....stupid.
Maxx: Pretty sure that while Rev did have a part in getting this out, the script and writing were probably finished long before Rev joined gearbox.
Worldwide, Earth-shattering Armageddon: May 2nd
God: Haha, had you going!
I'm not going to believe this is a real thing until May 3rd actually comes without the end of the world arriving beforehand. I'm not going to stop looking for other signs of the apocalypse until then, either.
With that said, I can't help but feel like you're going to give DNF a 4.5.
But I'm glad it's not that far off! :)
We've gone over this a bajillion times and Burch is not related to DNF in anyway.
Ask him about Borderlands 2 however...
and then release it anyway
Duke Nukem 2
Duke Nukem 3D
Duke Nukem 4ever
...
I can't think of a catchphrase or buzzword for 5, therefore, no sequel :P
Although there is a ton of other DN games that don't have numbers in the title, so I guess what I said doesn't really hold water.
But I don't think it will sell big either. Most people who play FPS games now don't know who Nukem is. They just want Black Ops, Bad Company or Reach. Anything else doesn't exist.
What would be sad is if 12 years of developement ended in a bad game. Which could easily happen, and tends to happen a lot with games that have extremely long developement times.
For good reason I guess! It gives me nostalgia goosebumps of fighting him for the first time in Duke Nukem 3D - such a cool fight.
Hey yeah! The Rev has totally got to be involved! Didn't think it was possible to be more excited for a game I've been anticipating since the 90's.
@KelvisSu
Lol
Not sure if I'd get it, though. Picked up Duke Nukem 3D, and damn I suck at that. I know, I know, completely different times we're in, but I've never been confident at shooters, anyway. Again, I lament that some great games/stories/fun are stuck in a genre I suck at.
Somehow you've captured exactly what I will look like as I exit Gamestop on May 3, game in hand.
rhymes with
maybe.
@redeemer Same, in fact I'll dress up like that and go to the store to get it.
I mean, after 12 fucking years, I can't NOT buy it. Right?
Heavens be praised
Oh contrare! http://twitter.com/#!/reverendanthony/status/28587771861934081
You are welcome.
and to those that aren't sure about buying it...
if you had started saving when they first spoke about developement, you WILL be able to afford it when it comes out. [:
