playing magic on a tablet could be pretty fuckin awesome. if only i didnt have to buy "decks" and shit and i didnt have to follow tourny rules with card limits. i would rather just play vs friends online. still have my actual cards from beta till ice age. if any actual magic collectors would like to make an offer on them i really dont use them anymore. PM me.
I agree iPad/android devices are perfect for these games. I haven't played a ccg since high school (11 years ago) but I'm down as fuck for a portable version. Just don't leave us android guys out.

The Duels Of The Planeswalkers series is really simplified due to the lack of deck building, but still, for someone who even played in a few tournaments, but doesn't have the money or any interested friends to play with, it's a godsend.
Played more than a hundred hours of DotP 2012, I'm sure I'll play this one even more.

Also, how many cards do you play with in a deck usually? 60 seems pretty balanced overall.

I have loved the first two games as a casual fan of Magic, and I will definitely pick this up, too. More ways to customize your deck would be lovely, but I'm not holding my breath.

DOTP is and was - about the play, not the deckbuilding. The depth comes from learning how to handle each decktype against each other decktype. It's not a substitute for MTG, but it's a fine piece of work.
If you want to customise decks entirely - they have MTG Online. Go get your "netdecks" on there. It's pretty fun, you can trade, buy, customise away - but, just like competetive MTG - the current "builds" often rule the roost - even in casual play.
This (the DOTP system) is a great little ecosystem, with relatively balanced decks, stable environment, and speedy online play. Have played MTG pretty consistently for 15 odd years now, and this DOTP is a good thing. For less than a cost of an IntroDeck/PreCon. It is what it is, and I like it.

@Phil - Yeah! An attrition based battle system in a card game... Talk about deep! Man, I wish I had more friends into that game. I never played against anyone I liked. Magic was so fun back in Ice Age and Tempest days, though, and all my friends were into at that point.

Just kidding. I really like these games. Everyone cries that you can't build your own deck, but hell you get 10 for $10. That cheaper then buying a few packs in the store. It's also easier to play online, and not have to go out into the scary world and make friends.

If anyone is looking for a free deck building alternative to okay with friends, Google cockatrice. Large community and again it's free. Lemme know if anyone decides to do this as I have a couple standard decklist ideas I'd like to try out.
Never got into magic but I did play RAGE in grade school. However, I can't find the draw(ba-dump-tish!) in e-card games. I can lay cards down in real life just fine. Collecting and deck building was the fun part. I'm finding myself ever pulled towards the world of tabletop gaming. Perhaps next convention...
@tekbunny. i started to play when it came out. stopped around iceage i think. never really bought ALOT of cards. maybe have 200 or so? usually try to keep decks around 60. my problem was i was never good at building a deck theme.
i had buddies that were great at it. like land destruction decks, kobold decks and disspell magic decks. with circles of protection etc. the one i made that worked pretty well was my black discard deck. grind and millstones, with creatures that make the player discard etc. it worked great when i could get the mana for it.
