I didn't even know they made a sequel to Starship Troopers.
Trust me on this... This movie makes the original look like a goddamn Oscar-winner.
So we go into the audio chat and then you tell us where/how to watch the movie?
@stangend77
Yes, that's exactly how it goes down.
For the action/storyline I do agree that StarShip Troopers is horrid, but I find the changes in society to be the truly fascinating part of the movie.
For example: Towards the beginning the professor speaks of the downfall of democracy and how they instituted something far less "Refined" than how we would see it in this day and age.
Further more, it demonstrates how the government stepped in to make decisions for its citizens. Like in the shower scene when Rico first gets into boot, one of the women explained her reason for joining was to make it easier to get a license to have children.
Hell, even how the television programs are entirely propaganda-based. The scene with the children stomping on the insects with the woman cheering gleefully.
It's almost as though they reverted to a sort of 1950's America mindset, but at the same time mixed it with a logically "equal" sense in terms of gender. IE: Seemingly complete gender equality with female marines showering/fighting along side male marines. Even more surprising was the way the genders regarded each other, no gawking at the nudity or discrimination, but they treated them just like another person.
While the latter part of my point seems to betray the 1950's "Perfection" mindset, the aspect of government punishing the aberrations in society reminds me a enforced ideal of squelching immorality/oddities to make a perfect society.
What is to take from all of this? That I completely over-thought that film.
@Abberant Thought
You do realize that the movie was based on a book written in the 50's, right?
No, actually I didn't.
HAHA! So I'm not insane! What I said makes sense!!
I feel obliged, in almost a humanitarian sense, to warn you about this flick. Unless you mentally prepare yourself for it, you WILL come out dumber on the other side. It is that bad. You cannot fathom how bad this movie is. It goes to the point of being so bad its ridiculously funny, and then keeps going - past absurdity, past disgust, straight into the depths of hell itself.
Its a shame. The first one really wasn't that bad.
yes, u all agree... this movie sucked...
BUTT! (yes but with double T)
this movie has certain scenes... that all guys WANT to watch... and its pretty dam hot if u asked me from a shitty movie...
Yeah, if you want to check it out Abberant, the author's name is Robert A. Heinlein. He wrote a ton of sci-fi stuff in fifties. I suggest you check it out.
Thanks Zero, always interested in a new read.
i typed this last week, but i'm pretty sure it got buried.
can dtoid movie night be like my fight club and happen twice a week. i love movie night, but my tuesdays as of late have been filled with spending time with the lady friend. and since dtoid doesn't sleep in the same bed as me {read: this is me declining any offers} i keep missing it.
I'm sure it would be too hard to pull all you guys away from the real work twice a week, and really too hard to organize one day a month be different, i'll just hope that next tuesday she has to work. {man i'm going to get in trouble just for thinking that.}
I know it is called shitty movie night but this movie is just too shitty. I bought it used for 8 bucks, watched it, then promptly gouged my eyes out and sold it back to the wharehouse for 3 dollars. Starship troopers was so bad it was good, this one is sooo bad that it surpasses good and goes back to suck. Even the breasts in the movie don't save it.
i cant wait!
yeah, they also based the original on Nazi war propaganda films .
yeah the first one was actually pretty sweet but 2nd was a BIG disappointment.
Hmm didn't think I would read these comments and ACTUALLY LEARN SOMETHING!!!!!! Hot Damn life surprises me again!!
Brought to you by the man who gave us the gift that is scientology.
wow i saw this movie and it is BEYOND SUCK!!!
you guys are brave!!
PLEASE WATCH Demon Hunter next week!!!
Guys, guys stop right there. 10 Eastern on a Tuesday night. Don't you know that the best show on television is on at that time. The fucking Shield is on at that time. SST can kiss my ass Vic has my back tonight.
That movie is NOTHING!!!!!!!! compared to the original! I do love how they reuse the bug CG from the first movie though...
@s0lesurviv0r
Actually L. Ron Hubbard founded Scientology. Don't drag Heinlein's name through that shit. He actually wrote stuff that doesn't suck.
Oh damn, my bad.
You're damn right, your bad. Accusing someone of being a scientologist would(should) get you castrated in some social circles.
I quite liked the first starship troopers, but heard about the sheer suck that was the sequel, so I avoided. There are plenty of films I haven't seen that are actually y'know, good, so I'd rather watch them. I like how dtoid movie night has morphed in such a way so it's acceptable for the movie to be a sequel to a film a game was based on, though. Diversity is strength!
best shitty movie night ever.
we ended with at least half the people we started with, and the movie didn't even finish.
I'm not surprised, it's not even a good B-movie, it's like and E-movie
I can't believe I missed this. This is pretty much THE shittiest movie you could ever do. How will this be beaten? HOW?!
Robocop 3 was worse than this...
Possibly Matchstick Men?
Actually, to think about it, I know lots of films to add to the list of horrible movie night!
A Gnome named Gnorme
Snakes on a Plane
Battlefield Earth
The Blair Witch Project
Star Wars: Episode I
Basically ANY Cheech and Chong Film
Judge Dredd
Any of the latest dated Jaws films (the first one was good)
Mars Attacks
Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat II
Dungeons and Dragons
Spice World
Titanic (3 hours to sink a fucking boat!)
Beetlejuice
Lord I could make this list longer, but I have to get ready for work =p.
Ivan Sulic was supposed to send me a copy of this movie for winning a contest, but I never received it. Just goes to show how trustworthy IGN contributors are!
Starship Troopers is an underrated gem.
The sequel? Not so much.
Oh man, I really wish I had caught this earlier! I was a huge fan of the original, partly because I just can't get enough bad sci-fi (it's pathological), so I was stoked for the second. I couldn't even finish it... and I wish I had been in the chat to hear what people had to say... anyone who was there have any memorable quotes about the movie from the viewers?!
