DSiXL dated and priced for North America photo

Nintendo has just announced the date and price for its chunky-sized DSi alternative, the DSiXL. Billed as a device that "plugs the gap" between handheld gaming and home console experience, the larger sized DSiXL will cost you a cool $189.99 and will be available in North America from March 28.

If you want a screen designed for "multiple viewing angles" that the whole family can crowd around for some reason, then the DSiXL is for you! It's basically the iPad of the Nintendo home gaming family, so if you're into that, then this is the news for you!

I am actually tempted to want this. And March 28th is my birth day too...

That said, no cash to spare between the misses and I so I'll probably have to pass for a bit. I do like the bigger screen though. I prefer my PSP over my DS in part because of the larger screen.

I'd definitely prefer that to my DS lite, but not enough to actually buy it.

Honestly... That doesn't sound too bad. I might pick one up when they come to Europe.

Wow it almost costs as much as a Wii or Xbox 360 Arcade.
But still not as much as a PSPGo! :P

I have a DSi that suits me just fine. I really don't want a bigger screen considering it will just make everything look more pixelated.

I'd be tempted to upgrade my trusty DS Lite, but with the DS2 possible announcement looming over the horizon i think i'll wait.

Well that's.... expensive. WTF, the components for these things must cost $5 by now, and the screen is still shitty and lowres compared to a PSP one, even if it's "bigger"...

I think I'll grab a DSi, if anything, and pick this up later once it's cheaper. Then again, my DS Lite is still performing admirably right now.

If my memory serves correctly, that's not too far from the price of the DS or the Lite when it came out. Not a bad deal at all when you look at the size of those screens.

Well, those who've had a hands-on with the device say that some games look great on the bigger screens. I'll try one out when they come out in the UK.

Ah Christ. They would have to announce it three days after I get laid off.

MY OLD EYES NEED LARGE SCREENS!

Oh well, best to wait and see so I can find out what the launch firmware is for NOT obvious reasons.

Tempting for some reason. On the other hand the functionality is the exact same as my good old DS lite. No, wait, I can play Lucas Arts games on the lite. Also, I have no money. Pass.

My DS lite's R button does not work and I bought it off a friend($40). How can I fix it?

@Michael Erazo- I've had troubles with my DS's shoulder buttons many many times. Try getting under there with some compressed air... if that doesn't work you may have to bite the bullet and send it in to Nintendo for repairs.

O-kay, new DS coming in Mar - $190.00?!?!

Goddammit...I hate you Ninty. But at the same time I love you. May as well trade in the DSi to bring that price down a notch.

I can finally enjoy Chrono Trigger on the DS! I am also only able to do so because I hoard my gift certificates.
