DSi XL: Not just for old folks, folks photo

To be fair, I've been caling the DSi LL an old person's system ever since we first saw it. I'm sure that I wasn't the only one saying that, either. It's as if Nintendo heard us. Now they respond to that, and they barely give a nod to our precious elderly population.

Nintendo's James Honeywell tells CVG: "It's absolutely not just for old people. DSi XL appeals to as many people, if not more, than its predecessors."

"With bigger screens and a larger pen-like stylus it's likely that older users may find the DSi XL easier and more comfortable to use but there are many more people it can and will appeal to."

Then he talks the system up for gamers and families to get past the old people stuff. They push the bigger screens, and really, now that I've seen how much better they look than the older screens, I'm all about them. And I'm in my 30s.

I really look forward to hearing a review from you guys of the DSi XL. :)

Initially I was going to get a DSi by the end of the month; my lite now has malfunctioning shoulder buttons, and the mic blew out the other night. Having now seen the screens of the XL however, I'm having second thoughts. Lets see some release date Nintendo!

Yeah... it's for old people.. that's why I've been considering getting one!
I like the bigger screen, I know my Mom would like the bigger screen. Even with bifocals (we both have transition lenses) it's often difficult to read the text on the DS - I'm hoping the text will be a larger font on the DSiXL.

I guess they just don't want to admit that old people play games!! :)

I'm 28, I'd barely call that old, but I can also palm a basketball, so a bigger Game Boy is always nice.

I wanna get one of these as soon as i'm sure there are no problems like weak hinges like the lite. I've got a lite ATM, but I've always hated the d-pad and the buttons on it (ok hate may be a bit strong, but they can be a pain). That, and there are finally some worthwhile DSiWare titles.

i like the ds but my main problem with it is i cannot for the life of me find a comfortable way of playing it if a game uses the stylus alot, i'm always moving to position it better or hold it up on my thigh. i loveplaying it when i have one here and will be getting one sometime this year around fall. that and a psp.

I saw the potential in the larger form factor since day one, almost convinced myself to import as well. The fact that the LCD screens are apparently nice is just icing on the cake.

I'll be patient and wait for NA release. Upgrading from a DS fat should be a real treat!

I could've never gotten through the last level of Elite Beat Agents without my extra-large Pokémon preorder stylus, which I really prefer using, so I've always been behind the young-people-like-it-too movement. This does nothing but confirm that.

So HA!

I always thought they were more for people like myself who are over 6' tall. I may check this out, and leave the dsi for the tiny little men with their tiny little hands.

this system intrigues me...
i have very happy with my DS lite for a long time now but it is starting to show signs of age. if it gives out the same time this is released in the states its either a coincidence or the most brilliant marketing campaign ever. that said, i dont know if this thing is GBA backwards compatible, which is a huge factor for me

I never understood people writing it off as an "old person" system in the first place. Are big screen TV's, old people TV's?

Gosh, i want this jsut for all the DSiware titles. I have a fully functional, non-hinge-broken, DSphat and DSlite, but I want MOAR, dammit! M-O-A-R, MOAR!

Now that DSiware is getting some good games, the XL looks very tempting. A big screen is always nice. I just wish it had the DS Phat's D-Pad.

As for the "it's too big to be portable" argument, netbooks are bigger and people carry those everywhere.

Apparently so. If you have a TV that is bigger then 32" then you are old.=)

I think it's stupid to call thing old people stuff if it is big because their are some people like me who are comfortable with bigger devices. It's immature and unprofessional for a news editor to be sprouting insults and put downs like that as you could be insulting your own audience or potential audience.
