I remember writing a story about the DSi when it was new. At that time, many of Destructoid's readers did not seem eager to purchase a souped up DS Lite. Even today we see some resistance. Is it the piracy thing? Are you not a fan of low-res cameras?
Well, someone's buying them. Just a couple of days ago, Japan's total sales of the DSi beat the 3 million sold mark. In all, that's 3,062,920 sold in only 9 months, says Enterbrain. Does that mean that Japan has dropped their DS Lite for a DSi? Did Nintendo's plan work? Should this give them the green light to work on the DSii?
Worldwide, since the April 2009 launch, the DSi has sold 6.68 million units worldwide. Like we said before, someone is buying these things.
Do you own a DSi? If not, do you plan to get one?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
But I got bored of it very soon, and decided that it was best suited for my mother's friend's five year old daughter. I don't see any reason to purchase a DSi, and I'm surprised at the 6.68 million who do.
Even if it is the first DS you are going to purchase, I'd still go with either the original DS or the DS Lite.
The only thing I'd be interested in is the nicer screen, but overall it's the same system as the Lite but with two (WHY!?) cameras.
I can't imagine pitching the idea of two separate cameras to anyone. It's retarded and a waste of money and space. They should have had a single camera that rotated in or out.
Come to think of it, the DS has an extra SCREEN for some reason as well. I can count the number of games that have actually UTILIZED that second screen for anything worthwhile on one hand. (TWEwY is the only one I can think of off the top of my head) In general, it just adds another "feature" to most games: "Drains battery twice as fast!"
But, we'll see...
dsi is easily the best handheld device yet conceived. if you are on the fence, i'm telling you that it's worth it.
As for the dsi, I do like the sound recording device, it's fun to play around in. I am still gonna need to buy a replacement to play my gba games on, but I'm sure the sp will be dirt cheap eventually.
I didn't say the TOUCH screen, as there are more games that use touch to their advantage (though even that is much less than it should be). I said most often there's no need for a SECOND screen.
99% of the time it just sits there showing stats or a map, even after YEARS of the DS being on the market.
Even one of my favorite games, Elite Beat Agents, doesn't need a second screen. I can't watch it while I'm playing, and the one screen doesn't even DO anything when it's playing the in-song cutscenes.
Zelda didn't need it, none of the Mario's needed it, the Pokemon's didn't need it, and the Castlevania's didn't need it. And all of these games exist as BETTER properties on other platforms (aside from Pokemon) where there's no second screen.
@CocoJambo,
Is piracy the only thing you ever comment on? I'm against it, too, but you seem to have a vendetta.
I don't carry it too much outside of my house, because, as any other console, when released, there are not too much games that take advantage of it, so I'm waiting a little more.
Also, I'm expecting Scribblenauts.
it needs some good DSiware or something before I'd consider purchasing one.
The DSi is an awesome little system and does alot of stuff right but it could be doing more. Yes the GBA slot is missed, but thats what my micro is for these days anyway. The DSi is a much better system then the DS Lite but I still don't think it justifies the increase in price yet, but it will sooner or later Nintendo just need to start doing more stuff with it and give people a reason for buying it.
