DSi LL moves 103,000 units in 2 days photo

Maybe it's that there's a large number of Japanese with bad eyesight. That's all I can figure. With the tens of thousands of DS and DSi that sell every week there, you'd think that the whole country has two by now. Well, now going on three.

A whopping 103,524 DSi LL, the new big-screened monster portables, sold in just two days, says Enterbrain data. That's almost as fast as the DSi Regular, and way faster than the PSPgo.

Is it all old people buying the LL? Probably. Here's why I say that: Bigger screens, big ol' fat stylus, muted "adult" colors, and packed-in brain-type and practical applications. It's like the big type books of videogames. And if this is the case, then Nintendo is really making new customers.

Oh, Nintendo. You guys with your money printing.

Looking at that thing...it just makes me sick.

Seriously, it's quite possibly the ugliest thing Nintendo has ever produced.

That's not that impressive.

Nintendo could release a DS with turds as the insides, advertise as such, and Japan wouls till eat it up. Hell, they already did that with the Wii.

Of course, I'm kidding.

I really have to wonder what Japan does with the older DS systems.

or how Nintendo keeps printing money from little upgrades.

People complain about owning 2 or 3 Xbox 360's...but this got me thinking, how many DSs do these people own?

I have a phat and a DSL, but I've got to buy a new DSL because of a hinge crack.

I'm thinking their places they play have little room, house, transit, etc. They seem to be mostly a portable market. I would have to see the graphics, but if it looked fine, I would get one for my house to play as a console replacement. If you do light gaming while on a train, I don't see why this wouldn't bet better. That same DSL screen can be hard to look at for a long period of time.

I might get one of these, but mostly because I'm getting old and could use a larger screen. The main question is, what does this make pixel based games look like, like a lot of Pokemon games?

@WormFOODx

Even more pixelly, as the image is just enlarged.

If you turn it sideways, it resembles conjoined twin Gameboys, attached at the hinge. One gets the larger visuals, the other has the controls.

the larger screen is nicer and all, but really i don't see the necessity as DS games look chunky enough most of the time on the smaller screen

I might get this. I only bought one DS (the original Lite) and I'm interested in the larger screen.

What's so ugly about it? Its looks exactly the same as a DSi/DS Lite model. Its just bigger that's all, so it still looks the same as the old ones.

Japan's economy is about to enter decline (and population decline). Right now the portable handhelds are the prevailing platform in Japan. Their game industry is stagnating, but the handheld market is still going strong. Nintendo is just being very business saavy, and the new DS fills in a gap that their prior models were neglecting...people that might have trouble seeing, or holding the smaller DS models.

This is why many games from major franchises have seen serious releases on the handhelds in Japan (DQ9 for the DS, and Monster Hunter for the PSP). This isn't Nintendo "printing money", it's them trying to make new customers to ensure their survival when the impending economic turmoil really hits Japan and abroad in the near future. Microsoft and Sony (and the third parties) need to be doing this as well, because they don't, they very likely won't be around to participate in the next generation of gaming consoles.
