Nintendo is the king of silly names (calm down, fanboys). Wii? C'mon. Nintendo 64? I'm still pissed about that. The name for their bigger-screened DSi, the DSi LL, fits. It's not elegant, but it works, and it let's you know you're getting something large and in charge.
But what about the names they passed on? Crap. All of them. Here are some of the turds:
- DSi XL (sounds fat)
- DSi Comfort (really?
- DSi Living (Ha! That's such a Japanese name)
- DSi Premium (eh...)
- DSi Executive (*shuts briefcase, adjusts glasses)
- DSi Deka (Japanese for "large")
The DSi XL was almost a go for the whole world. No one wants a game system that sounds like a shirt size.
The Iwata Asks article also explains that there was at one time a DS Lite LL, which is just a size-boosted DS Lite. No cameras or SD slot or anything.
Back to the LL name, how about DSi Big Screen. That sounds nice and redneck-y, doesn't it?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
It could use some chrome.
It's be attempting to imply alright, while also being stupidly close to DS Lite with skills in confusing people further. Being lager than the DS Lite, with DSi camera action.
The more confusing a product, the better it sells. I think that's in marketing 101. :p
So... In a manner of speaking it is "XL" worldwide.
fund it
Go look up the iPlayer and GBA support. I'll take the DSi XL if it's found to be working.
Also again to reiterate.
LL= Japanese equivalent of Extra Large. It's basically "double large" from how I've heard it described. Go visit some Japanese retailers online and look at their tshirt selection.
Yeah it's a goofy name at the end of the day but it rings much nicer than "DSi For People Who Are Nearsighted". Which is precisely why I'll br looking at getting one. It could possibly remove the taint of the GBA micro from my mind with it's giant screens and ability to NOT play GBA roms
