The DSi has proven once again that Nintendo consoles print money, with news that in the US alone, the latest dual-screened handheld has achieved 435,000 sales within a week. This beats the DS Lite's first week on shelves, with the last machine gaining 226,000 by this point.
"These numbers demonstrate that the Nintendo DS brand remains strong, and that consumers continue to look for the best new experiences on their portable video game systems," say Nintendo of America's smile princess Cammie Dunaway.
It would seem that the world has been surprisingly quick to toss aside the DS Lite in favor of a DSi. Whether that's legitimately down to the new features or whether Nintendo has finally achieved such "trendy" status that it can make and sell any new machine (dubbed hereafter "The Apple Effect") remains to be seen.
I do know I bought a DSi last night, though. It's pretty bloody cute.

I'm not making a judgment call. It's just a picture in poor taste. That's all.
Unless you're directly related to Beyonce, there's no need to be offended.
I'd like to point out to fence sitters or those looking for a good deal, I was in Gamestop last week and the clerk, after trying to get me to preorder an EDGE card and about 10 different game titles, he told me that NOW is a great time to pick up a used DS Lite. He told me he managed to get a used DS Lite that a customer openly admitted to buying only 3 weeks prior to the DSi's release. It was apparently in immaculate condition. I was originally looking to get a new DS lite as a backup, but from their in-store used inventory, they had a pretty immaculate crimson/black sitting right there...
I just has no monies. :(
That's like childs play on Dtoid compared to some of the other stuff.
So far, the DSi looks like a gimmick to me. I haven't really enjoyed anything on it, but I'm sure the MoneyMasters (they should be renamed the big M) will force me to buy it for some wicked download games.
Which would those be, pray tell? Not the GBA slot because aside from Guitar Hero no DS game needs that slot. And don't say battery life, because the quoted battery is for the max brightness setting which happens to be brighter than the Lite's brightest setting, so turning it down will yield similar power consumption.
I need a DSi still.
Minus the GBA slot was the reason why I was put off of it. Its made games that require the GBA slot like Guitar Hero On Tour useless, and its removed backwords compatiability with the GBA too. Worse, here, its about £50 more than the DS Lite.
Get a DSi and a GBASP or whatever (which are going fairly cheap). Best of both worlds, no? Sure, more pricey than a Lite but if we're gonna split hairs here...
But Nintendo was promoting the inability to play Guitar Hero as a selling point!! :P
Also, get a Micro for your GBA games people!! I can't use anything else to play GBA games since I got it. It is honestly one of Nintendo's crowning achievements, in my opinion at least haha.
And I didn't toss aside a DS Lite for the DSi. I never bought a DS Lite in the first place. This was an upgrade from the original DS for me.
And you stay classy Jim.
