One of the biggest motives behind the development of the DSi was surely to curtail the huge amount of piracy that has affected previous incarnations of the system, thanks to the rise of the R4 Cart. The R4 doesn't work with the DSi, while its enhanced features and firmware updates should have kept filthy pirates at bay. Apparently not.
The rape is about to commence with the arrival of Supercard's DSONEi, a brand new flashcart designed to turn the idea of firmware updates on its head. If you're using the DSONEi and Nintendo releases a firmware update to stop your illegitimate games from working, all you have to do is wait for Supercard to release its own firmware update, patching your DSONEi in order to get around the update Nintendo just released. That is sly.
This will be great for all of those homebrew fans who never pirate anything and only like to add functionality to their systems. Yeah. Right. Those guys. All three of 'em.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
When I brought my R4 card for my DS lite about a week ago, I saw multiple R4 DSi cards on the site I ordered from.

I don't think you need to be disappointed. Typically, "sites like this and Kotaku" tend to focus on general gaming news rather than keeping up with the latest piracy devices. I assume that if you're into piracy, you know where to get your up-to-the-minute news.
This is news because this is the first modchip to combat the nintendo firmware updates that will be happening. Once Nintendo patches the R4i and Acekard2i they will be useless.

Seriously, the big names would reduce illegal downloading more by dumping expensive 'security' measures and research into better measures and dropping the price of their games accordingly. Try telling that to a board full of stupid old men that have no idea about the business they are investing in though.
Minutes really.
Rule 34 on Jim + Star Scream + DSi + Pirates
Best shit ever.
Amazing thing is, Nintendo could kill all of this, by making the DS more open source than not (like iPhone). If DS and its development were more open (to both pros and homebrewers), there'd be less need for such devices. Nintendo's lack of sorting out readily available downoadable DS demos (foreign and domestic) also plays heavily into this.
If DS demos of DS games (and I mean all games, import or not), were as readily available, like games are on PSN/Live, there'd be far less piracy than there is.
At least someone bought it once.
I just got a DSi myself, so I'm planning on getting one of these things myself to make up for the lost GBA port. All my NES, SNES, GB & GBA favourites stored conveniently on one SD Card? Yes, please!
Reread my post, will you? ;)
Reread my post, will you? ;)
Or are you saying that the DSi can't even play GBA ROMS with the use of a flash cart? O_O
All these incredible measures designed to stop pirates are meaningless, they always get around them and for the most part just screw over actual paying customers.
The DSi is a waste of money anyways, normal DS lites work perfectly fine and have more battery life. I can live without the shitty DSi store.
The DS isn't powerful enough to emulate GBA games, so it can't play GBA roms. It also can't really play SNES games that well either, for that you should really stick with a PSP.
It does NES and original GB perfect though.
Oh yeah? After reading the last line of my post, you'd know that I did in fact understand your post properly. So suck on that. :P
Anyway, I searched for information about GBA emu's on google. And apparently it's impossible to emulate GBA games on the DSi, because they can't get access to the extra power of the DSi (they're currently stuck with the power of the old DS). And even if they did, it wouldn't be enough to properly emulate alot of games.
Kinda fail on my part not to have found this out earlier, BEFORE I purchased the damn thing. -_-
But we can always hope. :)
When will it stop??
my PSP was raped by a pirate
and it liked it.
