     News

In light of the Prince of Persia Wii announcement, a few of us on Destructoid were debating whether or not the Wii would succumb to the same fate as the GameCube. While some of us believe the console will see several quick and dirty ports that won't compare to their PS3 and 360 counterparts, several of us still have enough faith in developers to believe that eventually the Wii will be blessed with a large library of games built specifically for the system from the ground up. Whether or not this will be the case is something only time will tell. One thing's for sure, though ... there isn't going to be a lack of games for either the Wii, or its cousin in concept; the DS.

Hit the jump for a list of titles scheduled for the Wii and DS throughout the first quarter of 2007 in Europe. Note that some of these have already seen their U.S. release, but there are quite a few on that list have yet to be seen.

There were donuts in the break room, I happen to see this pic @ 1up.com, and thus you have a reason of chaos. I like making my girlfriend look like this, is that bad? Glazed Donuts FTW!!

i was thinking how this could happen before wii launch...

my GC had some good times but they were far and few between...

Wii seems to be better but only by a little bit... Me having all 3 systems helps out but no doubt my Wii will sit inactive the most same as my GC did last round. Could always hold out for Resident Evil 5 on Wii (OH WAIT, it won't be).

I'm just throwing it out there... If we have to Wii-make games to sell games... Bionic Commando? How about that one? I'd buy a re-imagining of that title in 3D.

Nice little FPS built around it? Sign me up.

Someone would also do well to create a decently designed platformer, similar to Rachet and Clank but without Mario.

I like action titles, but sometimes what I need is to run from one end of a room to another killing everything in my path while collecting crap.

I'm going to throw out concepts and developers can take note of which ones you can dig up, make a Wii capable sequel of, and justify developing exclusives on the Wii. Ready?

Contra
Soul Calibur
Sega Bass Fishing (Rapala, you shut the F*@K UP!)
Castlevania SOTN
Mega Man
Toy Commander
Jet Set Radio
Wrecking Crew (I would pay dearly to have a game where I basically destroy a building floor by floor with various tools in 3D, destructible enviroments, FTW)
Pikmin
NHL
NBA
Guitar Hero
Age of Empires (It's on the DS...)
SimCity
Archery
Horse Racing Sim (We DO have these in US arcades, port one to the home console...)

And the two ton elephant in the room...

Star Wars...

So, if any of you developers wanna pull your heads out of your shells, take these concepts, pick which ones you want to from your own IP's and get to work. PLEASE. While I don't think the Wii will fail at all, keeping 3rd parties in the game is something that the 3rd parties themselves need to work on. There's a reason why Nintendo's titles sell so much better on past consoles than 3rd party titles.

When we have Zelda and the only competitor it faces is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, you kinda see what the developers AREN'T doing.

If a developer wants to go out there and develop a really good game, not necessarily one based on any World Wars, licensed properties, or Mario, study the other guys and find out what they did to be successful.

I mean for every warmed over rehash we see every year, there's elements to those games that made the originals so successful. Jak and Daxter, Rachet and Clank, GTA, Katamari Damacy, Halo all got a BIG push in this last generation. Why? That's for you to figure out and make it your own.

Serious? I had 3 systems too all except the xbox, that one came to late. And really can't say I've enjoyed my Ps2 that much more then the other 2. If a friend of mine didn't got a free ps2 with TV I think I wouldn't even own one.

As for the Wii well I've never lost hope but I'm well aware of the fact that not all companies take the console real serious yet, it takes a while before these slow big companies start to think in different ways.

Hey Snaileib...

Wanna leave the NSFW photos OUT of the comments?
Go over to some other board to post that shit.

PLEASE? I mean a chesty bust shot is one thing to categorize as NSFW, but every friggin person in my office would be able to identify with and potentially be offended by that photo.

Jesus.

every game you could ever imagine is probably in some form of development in some way some where for some sort of cost that some gamers want and some developers like. See how I can use a paragraph to state the obvious? I agree with your post, and like the inclusion of your list of games, but, tone it down and make it more mediocore. I hate reading repeatitive blogs.

Well, I'm sure everyone in my office would probably laugh too, but it only takes one asshole in the office to ruin the party for everyone.

Don't post uncensored porn on the blog, dude. You'll end up just getting the site filtered out by a lot of people's office firewalls for that crap, and NO one posting at this time of day in the US, like you or myself, would want to have the site blocked because of decade old bukkake photos.

There is a Wii Horse Racing Sim. I think it's by Namco but I'm not sure.

Can't say I'm expecting much from third-parties this year for the Wii. Most of them haven't come to grips with the controls yet and a lot of them are also taking the wait and see approach. This year seems to me like a lot like the GC, with mostly awesome Nintendo games spread throughout the year and not much third-party. Out of that Q1 list, I'm buying Warioware, SSX Blur, and Sonic and the Secret Rings and nothing else.

That said, if I don't see an assload of awesome third party games announced for 2008 (or at least a few DECENT third party games.. none of the third party games currently known about on the Wii are anything special) than the Wii is a failure in my eyes.

Looks like the Wii is going to be the PS2 of this generation...

There will be a lot of games, but only about ten percent will be worth playing.

i guess my Wii will be
"that other system i have"

once i kill Zelda and Warioware ...
WHAT THEN? clearly there will be huge gaps between great games..AGAIN.
i can't even imagine when a Mario Kart will be released if
everything else is for Christmas 2007....

since the N64, nintendo systems dont get any
3rd party killer app titles, this gen won't be any different.
you know it.

why dont they just become a third party.

Kororinpa looks pretty fun. Marble madness, but with cakes. That DBZ game sounds pretty interesting too. I don't like DBZ at all, but I can forgive it for the wealth of options available.

Commenters, note that this is the european Q1 lineup. We always get the shitty end of the stick(ie. yanks will get more). Also, you can bet there'll be a few more that just sneak out there.
