DS and Wii launches in India, yes, launches! And I thought Europe had it bad photo

This kind of news will not stop me complaining about games not getting released in Europe, but it certainly puts one's personal gaming gripes in perspective. Did you know that the Nintendo DS has never been officially released in India? Well now you do, because Nintendo has announced that its DS and Wii systems are being released on September 30.

Samurai-India and HCL are working together to distribute the systems, and have already start unofficially supplying retail chains. The Wii shall be priced as INR 19,990 while the DS is to be priced at INR 7,990. The distributor's site, Samurai-India Nintendo, is still under construction as evidenced by the cheap looking .gif of a construction worker.

Well, time to rejoice, India. Just make sure Pakistan doesn't nuke you while you're too busy playing the hottest new releases like New Super Mario Bros. and Nintendogs.

@whormongr:

It sounds pricey to us, but we're talking about rupees. I mean you can find those lying around everywhere: under rocks, in pots, in shrubs, running into trees, etc

Wow that is pricey and also a bit late. If India like the DS and Wii Nintendo may come one step closer to complete world domination.

This is what happens when we buy up all the Wiis in the world. Think of the poor children in India who can only now play Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Mario Galaxy. THINK OF THEM!!!!!

Well, in Latin America they have not been released officially at all... (maybe with the exception of Mexico).

And Jim, please keep any supposedly-funny-almost-offensive racist comment out.

I don't think this is an official Nintendo launch. Just some company in India distributing the consoles to make a quick Rupe.

i think i'm prolly the only D-toid member living in India...and while it's a welcome move, with the DS and Wii coming here, the pricing is the equivalent of being violated by a bunch of Tingles. Having said that, the grey market is still cheaper for either console (Rs. 16K for the Wii and Rs. 6.5K for the DS) and since customer support and warranty is more or less non-existent (barring MS) this is going to be one interesting experiment.

Oh and we might be getting the NTSC U/C consoles and games *points and laughs at other PAL territories*

Also,Sterling's post is epic win as always.
