Dropping from the sky: Section 8 has plenty of it photo

If we created a “Bulkiest Space Marine Armor of the Year” award it’s quite possible Section 8 would run away with the it. The men of Section 8 are wearing some of the bulkiest, most burdensome stuff we’ve ever seen. But there’s a point (beyond beating Epic Games at their own rough-and-tough-dude game): the soldiers in Section 8 are sci-fi paratroopers and when they jump, they hit the ground hard.

Below the fold is a lengthy trailer for the game. It focuses on the jumping gimmick and shows off a few of the equally armor-burdened enemies in the game. You’ll see plenty of pew pew lasers, rockets, weird robot things, and even knives if you choose to brave the page break.

When we saw the game at E3 2009, we came away pleasantly surprised: The loose shooting (as seen in the trailer) and the jumping mechanics impressed. In a few words, it looks like this SouthPeak Interactive game will be better than Velvet Assassin -- not a mighty accomplishment, but reassuring nonetheless.

The PC and Xbox 360 versions of Section 8 hit retail August 25.

Love the jumping mechanic. Although I must say that the bulkiest suit of armor award goes to the Warhammer Space Marines. You can't beat that.

But are the space marines bald?

Nevermind, I watched the trailer. They are definitely bald.

Any word on a potential demo yet or are we going to have to wait for release first? I like the potential that this game has, but I'd really like to get a taste for it first and decide from there.

Other than looking very much like Halo.... I don't see anything special about this game. And given SouthPeak's track record, I doubt it will amaze.

Halo-Crackdown-Red Faction-Rogue Trooper-Cell Factor combo anyone? :)

Not that that's a bad thing :]

This game will suck. Look at Southpeak's track record.

When I first heard about this game, I was hesitant and uninterested. Sure dropping into battle from space sounded pretty cool, but it didn't really grab me.

This trailer made me rethink my initial position. But my question is -- was that gameplay or just cut-scene?

Somebody is trying to beat Gears...
Anyway, i hope there's more in the game besides jumping, otherwise it won't be a good game.

PS: Apparently this game have only violence, look at the beggining, at the ESRB rating.

This looks interesting. I'll keep an eye on it. I love FPS' games so we'll see about this one.
