You can argue that you're still saving $10 on Minecraft by getting it on XBox 360 and you don't have to buy the DLC, but you are also paying for gold memberships, and Minecraft could be modded on PC easily, and custom skins were a given rather than a luxury you have to pay for. Even ignoring the fact that you have to pay to play XBox 360 games online when it should be free (yes, I went there), to strip these basic functions you can expect from the PC version in favor of slapping a price on them is the epitome of Microsoft's hubris and pricing schemes.
They're also releasing a free skin pack that has a couple of them in it. It'll also be used so they can play with those that bought the skin pack.
Nice try at the old spin game though.
We all (i assume) know how it works in traditional media, and from being around long enough its observable that most times it is for sure not the author, so who?
Is it a general guideline? Case by case? Hit analysis? And by whom?
Shed some light on this and not only will I never bring it up again (as I love to) but likely back you.
Maybe just a special feature: Destructoid Values.
I really feel like this community could get far closer and far stronger if we could all get on the same page, so can we see the page maybe?
I can find that in my backseat. Either way, it's better than the alternative of being stuck with regular Steves and they are SKINS. It's not like they are adding bigger levels and making you pay.
On the PC version if I want to be a certain character I just find a custom skin or make my own. It doesn't cost me anything and I can be whoever I want not just Xbox or generic characters. That's creativity and that's what Minecraft is all about: Expressing yourself and who you are. Not having to pay anything for being a character probably 1000s of other people will be.
The amount these folks spend on shitty DLC over the course of a year would probably buy them a PC to play the likes of (the good version of) Minecraft in the first place.
Feel free to flame away! :)
Yeah totally Mojang.... I'm sure M$ had absoloutly nothing to do with this and are obviously the victims here....
Imagine how easy that is, all while showing whoever thinks this was a good idea how bad it really was.
I'm glad you know me so well, but I would agree that the comments section brings out my worst so I can concede on that a little bit. I'm generally a happy guy.
I realize Minecraft is about the creativity, but in the scope of consoles it's a lot more difficult ( I would assume) to do. Even taking something like Forge mode in Halo, and the paint job/decal editor in Forza...as well as those work...it's still takes a lot more work than just painting stuff in. If they figure out an easy way to have a custom editor on the Xbox in this version, then by all means, but I can't see that coming to fruition any time soon.
As much as it does suck, they aren't charging an arm and a leg for something you don't even really need. 40 skins for 2 dollars is a deal in the spectrum of optional costume DLC. One that instantly comes to mind is VF5 on XBLA. It costs more than the actual game for all the optional costumes.
It would actually be easier for the devs to make a simple program to create skins in an options screen than it is for them to make and sell the skins. Mario Paint on the SNES had a more in-depth program than they would need for this on the 360.
I just don't know what goes into this kind of stuff so maybe I should assume less. Would they just need a grid set-up where you color in the blocks for different body parts? I'd imagine if it was easily implemented it would have been (as far as it showing up for other people and whatnot)
Microsoft's policy on Updates and DLC limits how much of it can be free. Also, 4J studios developed this version, not Mojang. If you're going to bother to correct someone, at least do your research.
Of course easiness is nothing when money can be involved.
Maybe I'm wrong, but didn't everybody tell you this would happen long before the game even came out?
Essentially. They'd likely have a real-time preview like some of the fanmade ones for PC. But most of it could be contained with a simple grid for each body part. Something like Animal Crossing had, but smaller resolution.
If the vanilla game has enough content and I am being reasonably charged for the DLC, I will support.
40 nice looking skins for 2 bucks is a steal in my books.
Yeah, they're free on PC, so the principal of even charging a cent is irking, but whatever. DLC is something we all have to deal with as gaming becomes more mainstream and brings in more and more idiots willing to pay 3 bucks for cheat codes.
I completely forgot about the Animal Crossing editor, but that would be really cool to have something. Maybe in the future editors could be featured through Smart Glass. I imagine editing on a touch-screen would be pretty handy.
Whoa, hold on. I assure you my M$ hate is second to none. I guess I should have pointed out that both companies are (now that they are people and all) horrible, greedy, ungratefull, and gratified evil bastards.
I consider the rise of both to be nothing short of nails in the almost shut coffin (these days) gaming industry.
How anyone looked at Notch and his plans and said "that guy should totally get my money and support" is 100% beyond me. Capital/consumer-ism as its absolute worst.
