Just curious. I know how to do it on 360, just not on PS3.
Can people stop this crap already? It's just going to create more issues for the rest of us. Besides, I have an SNES, RetroDuo and Dreamcast all working fine. Why bother hacking a system to play games I already own or can just emu on PC without worrying about big brother threatening to brick my console?
Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.
My PS3 plays PS1, PS2, and PS3 games.
Well typically, Nintendo consoles are a lot easier to emulate for one reason or another. The N64 emulator takes significantly less power to run than a PS1 emulator. Plus, pre-N64 Nintendo had a myriad of amazingness.
That's right: The SNES is much better than the Genesis.
Don't take my word for it, but I imagine that formatting your PS3 hard drive might do the trick. Obviously copy your save files to a flash drive.
Once this scene gets a little bigger and more evolved (the Wii's homebrew,) I'll probably join in. Right now it just feels like a liability on my console.
I don't think so. FW updates are meant to be one way. Even the cache clearing on the 360 won't undo dashboard or kernel updates.
I hope someone ports XBMC as well. The project was actually doing well running on Linux until Sony lobotomized all our PS3s by removing OtherOS.
To be honest Sony really did this to themselves .... it didn't seem like the seedy underbelly of the game world cared two shakes about the PS3 until they removed the OS support, then it was on like donkykong .... which I hear will be coming soon to an emulator near you.
But do you have access to EVERY snes game for free all on a simple memory stick and in full 1080p like you would with this emulator?
I have a SNES in mint condition to with 20+ key games, still isnt gonna stop me from playing snes emulators!
Buy a Dreamcast for 30-50 bucks, buy or burn the games. Problem solved.
Crazy how that doesn't involve countless hours of coding and emulation and sacrificing your PSN support. It feels a hell of a lot better when you have the correct controller.
That's right, the firmware is saved to the nand or something (I forget what it's called), not the hard disk. Formatting it won't revert your console to any earlier firmware. If it did, then switching hard disks would probably cause havoc.

I like old games and I want to play them on my new console. That makes me a loser? Would you extend this belief to people who buy Virtual Console releases, or GOG.com games? Are you trollin'?
Sounds good. Hopefully they can get the dreamcast emulator working well. It's no easy feat and there's still games that have a hard time running on pc.
The idea of playing a game on a system that it's not meant to be played on also holds a certain illogical appeal for me. And I'm looking forward to having all my Dreamcast games lined up neatly on a memory stick or hard drive, for more practical reasons (reduced loading times, no disc-swapping, no dust or scratches, and so on). It's just the way I am.

I've never really used PSN much at all. After having all the bells and whistles of XBL for years, using PSN is frustrating. Before I stopped updating I tried to play KZ2 online, but there were about five games total in the match type I wanted to play. After that, I pretty much gave up on PSN altogether.
With the ability to run unsigned code and easily expand HD space, the PS3 could be so much more than an emulator. I have a modded original Xbox for emulators. What I REALLY want is to use my PS3 as an extender from my media server without having to build a HTPC.
I had running, stabley with most games: MAME, SNES, NES, Genesis, Sega CD, Gamegear, Sega Master System, Neo Geo Pocket and Pocket Color, and some other stuff I can't even recall right now. This was all encapsulated in a great shell that let you assign pictures and even videos to each game, save favorite, switch between emulators, and more. Look for The Zerogame Project. It's no longer updated spanks to Sony, but it should still work fine for those who haven't updated.
I did update, however, and Ive been trying to find an adequate replacement ever since. My laptop is technically far more capable as a device and as an emulating machine. However, there's no good solution for wireless controllers, the shells are far more complicated to work with, the emulators are obnoxiously hard to get to work together, and there's the whole "setup the laptop" thing which adds more pain and time than you would imagine.
I love my ps3 and still think I made the right decision by updating, but I miss TZGP so much...
Smug levels....reaching... critical.
Not all of us still have the old systems. I still got my DC but that SNES was history a LONG time ago.
Emulators expand on the functionality of the original console, making them a superior option. My SNES and DC still work too. But why not use an emulator if I can get progressive scan output without a VGA box for DC, or saved states and improved HD output using the video filters provided by Snes9x?
I know it will never happen, but a Saturn emulator would be nice too. I have a ton of light gun games for my Saturn, but old light guns don't work with HD displays.
Why will a Saturn emulator never happen? My system still works great, too, but I'm curious as to why the Saturn is more difficult to emulate than the other systems.
Spending 300+ on a system to mod it with something you could spend 30 dollars on an Xbox or PS2 and do the same is beyond me.
I have a modded original xbox with over 7000 games on it, but when I wanna play a NES game, I generally play it on my NES.
Hell, I just finished playing SMB3 this morning on my NES.
The point of doing this and possibly bricking an expensive electronic, when you could do the exact same thing on an inexpensive electronic is beyond me.
I guess i'm just cheap? lol
Soon there may even be a port of the Wii emulator that can utilize the Move. That'd be funny.
If you are happy about your setup then good for you; shut the fuck up and go play your games. You are completely missing the point of being able to run homebrew applications on the PS3.
