Dream Tablet: the Sega Dreamcast Tablet photo

Someone had to do it, right? Oh yeah. I guess no one did, really. But someone did anyway, and here it is: a Dreamcast tablet called the Dream Tablet.

So what is the Dream Tablet? It's a Dreamcast (R.I.P.) in a 15" tablet-style system. It runs on batteries (3+ hours of playtime) and even has an ejecting GD-ROM drive, says Fusionmods. Benheck forum member WERD gets the credit for this mod. You can see all of the construction details on his blog -- he put some serious work into this.

What's the point, you ask? I don't know. But it's pretty cool, right? A portable Dreamcast that's actually bigger than an Xbox 360?  I would play this on a bus just to see the reactions. Hydro Thunder, maybe? I would need someone to hold it up for me while I play, though.

Hit the jump to see the actual device in action.

Ok, now let's see a PS3 version with the Dualshock 3 controllers. :D
It's gotta be just as thin and run for about 3 hours.
That would be Awesome!

I could tell Ben Heckendorn was behind this just from the header image.

@ Steve
Too bad a PS3 uses as much electricity has a fridge. You'd be lucky to get half an hour off a battery that size.

@ Daedhead8
Ben Heckendorn didn't make it. Some guy with the username WERD did it.

I wonder how much it heats up in that plastic box with all the Dreamcast innards and LCD and no vents or cooling to be seen.

Man the Dreamcast laser is so fucking loud... My only complaint about the best console ever created.

Too damn bulky. Come on, if someone could make a portable xbox 360, someone could also make a smaller portable dreamcast.

If it's the Dreamcast, it's awesome. That's like a rule.

This is a pretty neat mod even though it's somewhat pointless.

"a couple pounds" my ass. That display likely weighs a pound or so, and the battery probably does too. Granted, it's probably around four pounds, but two, no way.

@Steve Cebu

You'd rather have a portable PS3 than a portable Dreamcast?

Right... no offence to the PS3 but Dreamcast > PS3.
