Wizards of the Coast and SOE are partnering to take the classic paper game Magic: The Gathering in an unexpected videogame direction -- 3D strategy. We’re sure the cards will still have a role in Magic: The Gathering Tactics, but the above teaser suggests that this is the full-blown 3D realization that dorks have been thinking about since they purchased their first Goat card or collected that full set of foiled Lands.
The PC and PS3-bound title was announced yesterday afternoon, but we missed a spot in our coverage. Above is a teaser for the game, revealing a hair or two less than the announcement did. Still, there’s a dragon in it, as well as epic music, making it worth your time if you're a fan.
While I love tactics games, and I've liked what I've been exposed to in the MTG realm (which is relatively little, sadly). I am going to say that was a terrible teaser ad. I think the terrible voice-over was the nail in the coffin.
I just wholeheartedly hope they do not, in Any circumstance look to the Magic the Gathering: Battlegrounds game for inspiration.
I don't want a repeat of that, but I am cautiously optimistic for a good strategy game. Unless they want my cash for digital booster packs etc.
Most likely that is Nicol Bolas, the main villain of the current Plainswalker storyline in the story the Magic Universe is currently based around in its fiction. He's also the final fight in the XBLA Magic game's DLC expansion single-player campaign.
Mannnn, i miss playing this shit. Best deck i ever had was a beast scourge/legion deck. I had 4 krosan warchiefs. it was a late bloomer deck, since mana costs are too high for beasts, but when 5 or 6 beasts are summoned, annihilation of the foe is guaranteed.
i just found all my OLD magic cards about 3 min ago. had been looking for them for years.
my thing was to play a black discard deck. but this was with friends and not with tournament rules with card limits and crap. our rule was you can only have a max of 4 of any type of card. except land of course.
i love magic but dam near every game they try to do is just crap and a perversion of what magic is suppose to be. but wotc don't want to expand the actually game to consoles because they don't want a boatload of money by releasing expansions every 4-6 months and supporting it.
i could have a better console based magic game by using my camera in a chat room and playing my own cards.

its an exciting prospect but.. that teaser was unneccessary to the max.
