Well, this screws up my head. When I was young and used to sneak off to the arcade to look at games and bum quarters, I remember staring in awe at Dragon's Lair cabinets, and I remember reading that state-of-the-art Laserdisc technology is what made this game possible. It was light years ahead of anything we'd ever have at home.
And now it's running on a phone.
Don Bluth's classic game is up on the iTunes App Store for only $4.99. And again, that just blows my mind. I wanted to be that radical douchebag with the spiky hair and the tight-rolled jeans and a Dragon's Lair arcade cabinet in my house. Now the game is on my phone. It costs less than a few plays of the arcade cabinet.
This iPhone version is maybe even more intuitive. You just tap the screen. That's it.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
It is truly a great age to be alive. (If you have an iPhone, otherwise your life is still garbage.)
I had, pretty much, the same experience with this game that you spoke of in your article.
Back in the 80's I had a paper route and would end my deliveries by going to a place called Paul's Pizza. This store had several arcade machines (including CliffHanger, zdoggy00). I wound up spending so much of my newspaper collecting money at the arcade that I was forbidden to go there. Since my parents weren't the boss of me I kept sneaking down to the arcade to play these games.
One afternoon as I was going into Paul's Pizza an elderly woman in the parking lot put her car into "D" instead of "R" and shot through the front of the store as I was going in. The door came back and hit me so hard that I was thrown into Bump-N-Jump almost 20 feet away. Scared that my transgressions to the arcade would be found out, I took off. Running home as fast I as I could.
When I got home my mom was on the phone with the police who wondered why I left the scene. I had become such a regular at the place that everyone had known who I was. On top of that, when I left the place I was a bit in shock and had left my newspaper bag with my name and phone number on it.
Every time I see a Dragon's Lair story, I think of that. Thanks for covering this title's release for the iPhone.
Thank you for your comment.
