From the looks of it, it will also come out for the Wii U. I also saw the wii's online running really well in the demo they played earlier. It looks awesome.

So yeah. I do remember MHTri. And the online wasn't that great. DQIX however, was, and this looks very much like it. I really hope they do voicechat for this, but I'm not holding my breath. I know that, even if I have to play it by myself, I'll enjoy it, but I'll have the nagging thought that it would've worked better on either of the current gen HD systems, or the Wii U.
When was the first DQ released? Mid-late 80s? And were still on 10? The fack? What, were they all remakes the last decade?? Also, why the fuck was DQ9 on the DS? DQ8 was on the PS2, then 9 on the DS, and 10 on the Wii? The fuck^10!! Everytime O hear about Dragon Quest, I just get more and more confused. Is DQX new or old? Did it originally release back in the SNES, and got a Wii rerelease or something??!! This series is more convoluted and messed up than Kingdom Hearts!!!

Confirmed at the end of the conference: It is coming to WiiU, will have cross plat. play with Wii players. If you buy the Wii version and later get the WiiU one you will be able to transfer saved games and pick up right where you left off.
For those who don't want an MMO, they have said it can be played entirely offline as well.
There will also be some 3DS integration, but not a full game. They mentioned street pass.

Also, this being on Wii rather than Wii U, the fack^over 9000. Or how about We all know DQ sells exceptional well in the land of the rising sun, so why not release it for the Wii U as a launch title to give it some kind of advantage over the upcoming PS3+1/Xbox360•2

My only thing is that the more JRPG's try to be like MMO's, the more alienated from them I get. Well, used to be one of my favorite genre's anyways. Plus, Ninty won't let me play the couple examples I was really excited for.
It's certainly strange that the JRPG series known for it's stubborn traditionalism is slowly but surely attempting for other audiences. Squeenix continues it's lack of confidence I guess.

Well I guess they'll never be calling your than, because the 360 is dead and buried in Japan. So they'll never put a DQ game out on the least popular platform in Japan. The PS3 is possible, but with the Wii having almost double the install base, in Japan, its unlikely that they'd go for it, over the Wii. Its coming to the Wii U though, so if you need to have it on a HD system, just get it for the Wii U!

why would anyone hope for a shift in platform? it sounds like some HD fanboys who think that game will be bad simply because it's not "HD". why not say that all those upcoming ps3 exclusive games should be put on hold cause in 18months there will be playstation 4?

Oh wow something after skyward sword, that's a surprise. I just bought a wii (shit is CHEAP these days, has a nice back catalog to play). Guess it's this gens twilight princess. If it has a sub I'll most likely solo the whole thing. I prefer my games like that, if WoW gave access to the auction house and the rest of the game single player + had no sub I would be totally addicted (Diablo 3 will be my crack).

I soloed DQIX and i plan on soloing this one,then again i didn't have a choice with DQIX,since my friends are tools and only play COD...I fucking hate my friends...

So continuing the trend from DQIX...sigh...I don't think we'll be seeing the likes of III, V, VI and VIII again. Well, best of luck to the devs and hopefully it'll be a good game.
Two things. One, anyone who hoped this would be for an unproven system simply because of "teh HD" is a moron. Two, I'd be a lot more excited about this if I'd ever managed to complete a singal DQ game I'd tried. I didn't loathe DQ8 and I found DQ9 to be quite good, but they just stop being fun so quickly.

No HD, BEAUTIFUL world, huge environments (huger than you'd be able to do in an HD game if we're being honest, since all that space on the disc would be taken up by higher res textures and such), and great great story and gameplay.

Its a series that is both backward and forward looking at the same time. Its a really old school RPG series, but they definitely improve. The stories are charming as hell also.
As for why DQ9 is on DS, that's most likely due to the fact that JRPGs are easier to sell on portable systems due to them being a better fit. Unless the game has really high end production values you probably aren't going to find a market.

Right on the money about the HD Matt. People don't seem to realize that HD cost much more manpower, time, money, and storage space. That would be why FF13 is incredibly linear, among other things.

I was hoping they would've given Level 5 development duties again on this one... But if they can match the quality in-house of 3, 8, or 9, they can have my monies.
It's disappointing people cannot look past the fact this game will come out on Wii, just like how DQIX came out on the ds. If you are hung up on the graphics and wish it were hd, Dragon Quest probably isn't the series for you. This is the series that took til it's 8th version to be in full 3d. For me personally there hasn't been a bad DQ yet (well maybe you could argue #2, and #7 did drag on a bit), and I cannot wait for this to come out.
Sounds pretty neat. Even though Monster Hunter worked pretty well online, I'd still prefer this on 360 or PS3. The online would be even more seamless.

.The game looks good other than the fact that it's on the Wii. Why put an online MMO on the console with the worst online capabilities? That is an awful idea. Add that to the fact that the Wii isn't getting much support, but I guess it is in Japan so good for them.
