For those who don't want an MMO, they have said it can be played entirely offline as well.
There will also be some 3DS integration, but not a full game. They mentioned street pass.
Seems smart enough considering the hole they found themselves in.
Oh also, it has been presumed by some that, based on previous comments by SE, this will be subscription based...
I guess I remain indifferent. Some of the systems, jobs, and customization looked pretty cool though!
WTF!?!
Glad to hear that they're planning on making it "enhanced for WiiU" since the rest of the world (including Nintendo) seems to have given up on the Wii. My only thing is that the more JRPG's try to be like MMO's, the more alienated from them I get. Well, used to be one of my favorite genre's anyways. Plus, Ninty won't let me play the couple examples I was really excited for.
It's certainly strange that the JRPG series known for it's stubborn traditionalism is slowly but surely attempting for other audiences. Squeenix continues it's lack of confidence I guess.
Well I guess they'll never be calling your than, because the 360 is dead and buried in Japan. So they'll never put a DQ game out on the least popular platform in Japan. The PS3 is possible, but with the Wii having almost double the install base, in Japan, its unlikely that they'd go for it, over the Wii. Its coming to the Wii U though, so if you need to have it on a HD system, just get it for the Wii U!
“Dragon Quest is trending on Twitter in the U.S. /woot”
So was the Wii U and both were trending worldwide as well.
frankly i'm glad it's on the wii and i'm glad there will be Wii U version with cross platform gameplay.
If it has a sub I'll most likely solo the whole thing. I prefer my games like that, if WoW gave access to the auction house and the rest of the game single player + had no sub I would be totally addicted (Diablo 3 will be my crack).
It would be awesome if they gave split screen support like Phantasy Star Online for the Gamecube, that was really fun.
and I'm serious about being scared
who would've thought???
can't wait for this :P
though im still not buying a WiiU in 2 years after it's release due to tons of backlog games to finish(same with Vita and 3DS) and college is a pain in the ass "-______-
And a third thing on top of all that, I need only point you to one game if you think HD capability would make the remotest difference in the quality of this game: Xenoblade. No HD, BEAUTIFUL world, huge environments (huger than you'd be able to do in an HD game if we're being honest, since all that space on the disc would be taken up by higher res textures and such), and great great story and gameplay.
I'd say the fact that Dragon Quest is only on #10 instead of 14+a zillion spin off like the Final Fantasy games is indicative of the time and quality put into the games.
Its a series that is both backward and forward looking at the same time. Its a really old school RPG series, but they definitely improve. The stories are charming as hell also.
As for why DQ9 is on DS, that's most likely due to the fact that JRPGs are easier to sell on portable systems due to them being a better fit. Unless the game has really high end production values you probably aren't going to find a market.
Right on the money about the HD Matt. People don't seem to realize that HD cost much more manpower, time, money, and storage space. That would be why FF13 is incredibly linear, among other things.
DQ9 is great with a friend, even if it is all turn based. I still have to complete that game as well. Over 40 hours in and not done yet...
But seriously, I will probably end up buying a Wii just for this.
At least it's on the Wii U, a less shitty console, but I still don't like it based on what I've seen. I would've preferred a PS3 version though.
Where to start are your false statements
1) The game looks good for any system with a unique art style.
2) The game isnt a MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER Online GAME. Its a single player game with an mmo LIKE sub quest system, and a multiplayer component like IX. It supports only 4 party teams. Hardly massively multiplayer.
3) This game gives the wii the only support it needs in japan
45) The wii is a good console. The wii u will be just as good. And your last statement was just pure fanboy
1) You can play offline and get 100 percent of the content
2) If you choose to play offline you can recruit or make 3 more characters from the tavern.
3) The multiplayer online component is 100 percent optional
Also, I'm waiting for my Battle Royale match between Sofik, Jimmyx, Stealth, and Vallanthaz
This is god-awful news, and DQ is my favourite RPG series.
Let Level-5 make DQX offline only, then Square Enix can make Dragon Quest: Online or some crap.
