Dragon Quest V Japanese trailer is Japanese ... and a trailer

If there's one thing I could always want more of on the DS, it's a good RPG, and Square Enix looks like it's going to have me sorted out for a good while yet. This Japanese trailer for Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride looks pretty damn lovely, and should provide everything that the hardcore JRPG geek could need.

Square Enix is very good at squeezing the very best out of handheld systems, with the gorgeous-looking Dissidia on the PSP and the FF remakes on the DS. Hopefully, this refresh of DQV plays as good as it looks.

Like the whore I am, I preordered FFIV this morning. I think I'll end up with this one too. Whenever it gets here that is.

Oh wow, that looks like a lot of fun! One thing I've always loved about the Dragon Quest series is their distinct personality. Sounds, Music, Enemy Design, etc etc. All looks and sounds like Dragon Quest, pretty hard to mistake it for something else.

I love how DragonQuest is considered a hardcore JRPG in the west and in Japan it is so casual, that almost everybody has played it.

ParaParaKing, I'm sure people in Japan feel the same way about Halo. I shudder at the thought...

Why does it start with saying VI and later says V?

Wow, did you guys see that bit at the end? Now you can choose from Bianca, Flora and some new chick that looks like a whore! They should've just made it a generic bunny girl.

Professor Pew: Both V and VI are being remade on DS. This trailer contained both titles, but only gameplay footage from V. A weird way of doing it, certainly...

If you've never played DQV, you're doing yourself an absolute disservice. Epic is not a word I generally bandy about, but it perfectly fits this game. There aren't that many RPGs that I can name off hand that span your hero's entire life. It's the only one I can even think of where your kids wind up as party members down the road.

@Superfluous Moniker: Holy shit, that's what I thought too. That better not be a jerk-around by the trailer.

No no no, don't start with this variation of "it's going to Quest my Dragons" thing.

This may well be the most beautiful thing that I've ever seen! Sprites! Parallax Scrolling! A tiny bit of 3D thrown in only for effect! They already have my money! They just need to release it stateside!

@Haxan: they are releasing it stateside:

They're releasing all three, and I'm so glad that they are finally bringing V and VI over here. They're both great DQ games.

It's interesting seeing that third person there. Was she in the PS2 remake of DQ V? Will she suck less as a party member than Flora (she capped at level 10. What the fuck?!)?

With DQIV (remake) not even launching here yet, it'll be a while before we get to touch this. It'll be even longer for you, Jimbo.

Oh, maaan. My nerd-boner went off at that trailer. A raging hard-on of DQ lust. Those early DQ games are amongst some of my fondest and most favorite. Dragon Quest IV, especially. This is really cool stuff.
