Dragon Quest IX delay may push back Final Fantasy XIII photo

I wasn't too irked by the news yesterday that Dragon Quest IX would be delayed due to crippling bugs -- after all, I wasn't expecting to see the game until late this year anyway, but Kotaku is reporting that the delay may affect the time frame of Final Fantasy XIII, and that's something that does disturb me.

Square Enix president Yoichi Wada commented on the possible effects of the Dragon Quest delay, saying:

"The next term's schedule hasn't been fixed yet. Presently, I cannot say what kind of effect we will experience from moving the Dragon Quest IX launch from March to July. I cannot say there won't be an effect."

Wada also told Japanese news site IT Media that there was a possibility that the Dragon Quest IX delay could effect Final Fantasy XIII. After seeing the most recent trailer, I went from not paying too much attention to a salivating, quivering junkie in need of a fix, so this is very unpleasant news to me, but considering it hasn't been confirmed yet I guess I'll save my upset until Square says it's for sure.

Fuck Square-Enix. they've turned Final Fantasy XIII into a cocktease, with each trailer showing a little more skin but ultimately you don't get to ride that bitch.

I'm more excited with DQ9 and DQ10. Final Fantasy lost me with FF10. Bring back the old school mentality Square!

Interesting. Considering how zomghardcore FF is these days, I'm surprised they're not gonna push back DQ9 and then push FF13 forward.

@Doomsday Forte

DQ is still more popular in Japan than FF.

Eh, I'm WAY more excited for Dragon Quest IX. If the return of the ATB in FF13 can pull me back into the series, great. If not, I won't shed any tears...

@Golden Avatar: It is? That's news to me...On this side of the world, everyone I know has played some form of FF, but hasn't heard of Dragon Warrior/Quest...

At least I'm starting to cut my teeth with DQ8. Gotta start somewhere, right?

It would be amusing if FF13 sucked. I'm surprised that people haven't lumped it in with the other games where development took this long. (We're looking at you, Too Human)

"... Kotaku is reporting that the delay may affect the time frame of Final Fantasy XIII..."

and then...

"...there was a possibility that the Dragon Quest IX delay could effect Final Fantasy XIII."

I know i'm an ass for bringing this up. But Kotaku did the same thing. And while I expect this sort of boobery from them, it bugs the shit out of me.

yea.. FFXIII can suck my nuts these days.

come on square, just give us our updated FFVII and make your millions and also help sony sell a few PS3s :)

imagine what a FFVII remix bundle could do for ps3 sales.. i'd buy another one if the PS3 was also skinned for FFVII :)

Ten bucks says that on half the websites out there the square-enix fanboys will find some way to blame Microsoft for this.

God dammit.

I'd really like to get a look at the process Square goes through when making a Final Fantasy game and figure out what the hell causes them to delay their games by 1-3 years. They've been doing this stuff for over a decade and still can't seem to hold a release date for the life of 'em.

I find myself struggling to care. The more they delay it the further it gets from my mind, videos or no videos.

FF XIII won't be on my radar until Square finally puts a bloody date on it. Until then, I honestly couldn't give a rat's ass.
