Dragon Ball Kai will be getting its own RPG from Monolith photo

[As originally posted on Japanator]

All you Dragon Ball fans can rejoice, for already are there videogames being worked on for the series. The franchise reboot has already kicked off their ancillary marketing campaign by announcing this upcoming DS title from Monolith Soft, the company behind the Xenosaga franchise.

For those of you wondering what the hell Dragon Ball Kai is, check out Japanator more often. But, to give you a short version of the story, they're going to be rebroadcasting Dragon Ball Z in HD over in Japan starting next month, and the show will be re-edited to follow the manga's storyline more closely. So that means all the filler that's stuck in there? Cut out. They're even bringing in the original voice actors to re-record a bunch of lines for the show. I'm rock hard over this, just so you know.

The title will take place in the Saiyan saga, which means the series will culminate with the battle against Vegeta. Until then, you'll be able to run through all sorts of adventures, following closely to the Dragon Ball Kai storyline. So, don't expect anything too new in the story.

There's not much on the game itself, other than this trailer, and so I have a feeling the title will be...less than inspired. Right now, it's got a more-than-typical worldview setup with the classic J-RPG battle lines. I have a feeling this one won't be making it over as a "must have" title.

Check out the trailer after the jump.

Shit, I should check out Japanator more often! HD DBZ without all the standing around sounds perfect... This game also looks cool, though I don't really know what's going on and the GBA one I tried wasn't very fun...

Now all they need to do is reboot the original Dragon Ball series into HD using the same techniques they did in the 80's... That'd be so sweet.

Goku needs oxygen to survive right? So why does it seem all the enemy he encounters always tries to have a fistfight with him? Didn't it occur to them to just destroy the planet from a distance with an energy bomb?

This just looks like all the other DB games for handhelds, but I may pick it up (if it ever gets released in the UK).

I have been waiting for DB Kai forever now, I don't really watch much in the way of anime but this will be an exception.

And FMA.

And Mazinger.

And maybe that Sengoku one because I love Dynasty Warriors.

Since when was Goku-san that smart,Chronic?

He is too soft for mass destruction anyway.

@Chronic Logic: now you're being too...logical.

Seriously though, a few enemies actually tried that, and a couple even succeeded. Yeah, I was a huge DBZ geek back in middle school.

Neat! Also, how come at the beginning of DBZ Vegeta is like 3 feet tall, but by by the end with his hair he's taller then Goku? Japanese steroids?

@Zodiac

Vegeta is so awesome, he did it by pure will. Or the animators got tired of the hate mail.

Vegeta FTW.

Original voices like Blue Ocean dub voices? I thought Vegeta's old voice was awesome, as long as they change it in the same spot. The new voice went better with the newer looking animation IMO.

The game looks like it has potential to be cool, but I don't like Monolithsoft for what they did to the Xenogears' story, and I didn't enjoy Xenosaga so much on top of that.

I'm all happy for some HD DBZ... but I'd really like to see them continue the series on after the Buu saga. Aka, abort the crap that was DBGT and make a fitting continuation to DB/DBZ

The attack animations bring back warm nostalgia.

Also, you can find HD DBZ clips on YouTube. Not full episodes, but good enough.

I am going to miss those six-episode arcs that was filled with nothing but someone powering up while the planet shits itself!

I hope that, if it ever gets released here, that DB Kai will retain its original music...

But I'm stoked for the RPG. Looks great. :O)

Personally, I think it's about time they made a decent Dragonball RPG! My friend and I have been chirping about this forever. Now let's just hope it doesn't suck. lol
