Shit.
"larger quests that might last an hour or two "
Fallout 3 rocked these hard. As long as they're good, I'm in.
"up to even fully fledged expansion packs."
So...like Shivering Isles? I'll buy two copies, Dragon Age devs!
I have to say their releasing DLC on the day of release smacks of EA's influence, but maybe that's just me.
As far as RPG of the year, it think it will have to face off against DEMON's SOULS for that honor. Man DsSs is kicking my arse, but I cannot stop playing it.
And in general, so long as a developer/publisher follows the Fallout 3/Oblivion DLC model, I'm in for it.
Really?!
Looks like we have another "we'll support L4D just like Team Fortress" bullshit statement, folks.
" "And it's going to be everything from really small stuff like item packs"
Shit. "
Agreed. I remember in Sacred 2: Fallen Angel, there was a dlc where you could get this portable chest, so you could basically pick up as many items as you wanted. Thats bullshit. Make something thats gonna add extra ( And new ) gameplay to the game, not something thats supposed to make your time on it easier.
Also, you couldn't pause that game at all. Fuck that.
That's one of those things everybody says but it's a complete fallacy. The game is finished. It's playable from start to finish. The DLC is nothing but extras. If you're waiting 2 years for that, you're a fool.
You sure about that, though?
Fallout 3 had an obviously incomplete ending, and a laughable level cap of 20 (in comparison to their previous games' 80+). Sure enough, some months later, Broken Steel comes out and patches in the full game at a $10 fee. Allisonaxe could be not that far off the mark here.
Waiting a few years for the "Dragon Age: GOTY Edition" that includes $100+ of extra DLC is actually a really thrifty decision. Do you know for SURE that there won't be some sort of "Epilogue DLC" that will increase the level cap, and add an extra ending (no one does). I know all of the Fallout 3 hold-outs are pretty floored right now with their GOTY purchase.
The point is, it's all speculatory, but either of you could be right.
Fallout 3 was a complete game by itself. I don't feel Broken Steel added that much in to the game to make it a requirement. Broken Steel felt like the other expansions. I could do them but they weren't necessary for me to feel the main storyline was complete.
My hope is that with this DLC it is like the Fallout 3 ones where it is more questlines / new areas to explore. Unlike the Fallout 3 ones I hope it feels more relevant to what occurs in the main game.
I'm just comparing Fallout 3 to every previous Bethesda game before it.
Elder Scrolls games have an ending that you can play after you beat the game (there's no cliffhanger cop-out as well).
Elder Scrolls games have a level cap four times the size of Fallout 3's. Fallout 3 really felt out of place upon completion until Broken Steel came out (which I love, by the way).
bioware did release dlc before they were EA. they actually promised more dlc before they were bought, but the opposite happened afterwards.
Neverwinter Nights had some of the most extensive free and paid DLC of any game out there.
Disclamer - I work for Bioware!
I really don't like that sections of console games seem to be left off at retail and sold to me for 10 bucks more a pop if I want to get the most out of the game. and as far as Mass Effect goes? Bring down the sky came out after I had completed the game once through. I didn't really feel like playing through the game again, and all of my save files were after the point where you're back inside the colony, fighting Sovereign, and there really isn't a way to get back out into the main game from that point, so my only choice is to skip it or save it for the time when I want to play the game again some day... but since I'm happy with the choices I made with my characters, that probably won't be till after I've completed the sequel.
DLC has the potential to be a good thing, and some of it is even worth paying for when the price is right. but a lot of the time, I keep feeling that it just seems like they didn't finish the game, or they left a feature out, or the bonus of getting the dlc really isn't worth the price. games are expensive enough as it is.... is fallout 3 (60 bucks) plus its 5 pieces of DLC (10 bucks each, so thats 50 more) really worth 90 dollars to enjoy the content that is available? yes, I know that there's a GOTY edition out that includes the dlc, but when I've already paid for a game at launch, I really can't justify paying 50 bucks to get it all over again. All DLC is doing is causing me to no longer buy games at launch, and instead wait till i can get it cheaper (the clearance bin has become my friend) so I can maybe afford to buy the pack that is required to complete the game. and even then, oftentimes, i find myself just skipping it altogether. Odds are, when fallout 4 comes out, I won't even bother buying it until the game releases the GOTY edition. same goes for dragon age: I'm going to have to wait for it to go platinum hits or for a complete release if they're promising DLC before its even out.
its really turning me off to certain kinds of gaming, and thats really unfortunate because otherwise, in the past I would have probably really enjoyed them if it weren't for being nickled and dimed. money is tight now, after all.
why can't developers just ship a whole, finished product on the disc, and then start working on their next complete project?
