Dragon Age Origins coming to consoles photo

BioWare’s once PC-exclusive RPG, Dragon Age Origins, will hit the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The information stems from an interview with lead designer Brent Knowles, who told VideoGamer that the game will “show up on consoles after the PC release at some point.”

The reason for a console release is quite simple. Knowles is aware that games on consoles, particularly the good ones, make money. From the interview:

We think about these things a lot and we know that the console market is an important market as well. And it just makes sense. There's not a lot of RPGs like this available for console players. There's a lot of people that the console is their primary gaming platform, they aren't playing on PC ... We've kept consoles in mind throughout the development cycle so I think we're going to have a really strong offering to the console players.
Knowles was unable to pin down a timeframe for console release other than iterating its eventuality after the PC release. Dragon Age Origins looks awesome and is currently slated for early 2009. Hopefully, Fallout 3 and Fable 2 will give me my fix in the meantime.

Really, come on did you see the trailers? It was practically console friendly controls. Not only that but you can set up the AI to run most of the action anyway.

I'm glad Bioware is moving more onto consoles.

Well this is no surprise. This generation games take too much time and money to make so it makes sense for the developers to release them on multiple platforms. Only first party titles are still exclusive.

I can't wait to get my hands on Dragon Age. I'm drooling all over myself just looking at the delicious purple punching bag in the posted image. Maybe the time has come to visit Mr. Repairman and see if the RRoD finally changed it's color. I'm a bit reluctant to get this for PC, knowing what kinds of viruses EA will install on my PC in order to fight piracy and the week early pre-release bittorrent leaks. Or maybe I should just leech it?

I think avatars are fucking stupid and hate the fact that they're going to force me to make one when I update. I don't play the Wii for the Mii characters (come to think of it, I hardly play it at all!) I play it for the waggle sticks. M$ is pretty clueless most of the time.

I had no idea this was ever a "PC Exclusive" anyways. I mean, these guys were one of the first to start making stuff for console with KotoR and the X-Box, so I hardly see how this is surprising.

And ttaylor says nothing that has anything to do with anything on this post. Fantastic.

HAHAHAHA Baldurs gate without Multiplayer.

Rubbish.

Seriously though nice try BioWare but if your gonna claim to be making it like baldurs gate one and two then I wanna go romp around the countryside with my brother and smack the crap out of kobolds.

They're not putting in multiplayer though so, Fail.

This was never a fully PC exclusive, just a timed exclusive. The news here is the PS3 version.

lol @ ttaylor, I seriously had to go back and reread the article post as I thought I missed something. Thanks for setting things straight frozenbabylon.

I'm hopeful Bioware can return to the Baldur's Gate PC RPG glory but times have changed and so has the company I think. Thats not necessarily a bad thing, as some of their cross platform games are still really good, I just won't be believing all the hype I've heard about this game until I get my hands on it. Comparing it to the PC RPG greats of old, automatically raises caution signs for me.

The lack of multiplayer however, is a sign of hope for me. A great game doesn't need it, at all. Its encouraging to see Bioware focus on the single player aspect of it, which I feel is especially important for an RPG.
