or in my case, "No score? Hmmm, maybe I'll just read the comments."
i'm lazy is what i'm saying. verrrrrry lazy.
You make me want to give it a shot. I haven't beaten the game with a 2-hand warrior yet, anyway.
First would be the Dark Spawn. While I also found it to be nice that there was a larger array of them, I only found you needed tactics with the big shield wielding guys, and even then you really didn't need to do more then get behind them and wail on them -the DLC wasn't nearly as tactic heavy as the previews made it feel like it would be, and I powered through 99.9% of it without giving most of the battles much thought, only really having to think about how to get safely around the last bosses spells -but once I did figure that out It was ridiculously easy, if also a bit slow as well.
Another would be the narrative arc, which I didn't find it to be deep at all. It honestly felt to me that they -more or less- threw you in here, told you a loose reason why your there at all, and then sort of let you go. Even when you come across the narrative pushes along the way, each one felt weak, with the last one falling completely flat no matter what your choice was. There was no reason to care that ***SPOILERS*** your mom was ever in danger once in her life (before you were born it sounds like) because you knew the outcome of it, and even less reason to give a crap about who the last boss really was, specially since there was no indication that there were more of him out there or that Hawke would try to seek any of them out to end them too.
Also 1 of those little side missions that was called a "glorified chest" (which I didn't disagree with) had A LOT to do with the main plot of the story.. Only problem is there was absolutely no weight given to it, even as the group is talking about it as you do it. And ANOTHER of those quests had some weight behind one of your party members (whom there was a decent chance you didn't take with you), but again very little weight was put behind the revelations enclosed in that questline.
"And if there’s one positive thing to be said about the way “Legacy” limits players to the same three companions the whole time, it’s that restriction often demands resourcefulness."
This is only mostly true in my opinion, as like I said above I just powered through most everything easily.. But at the same time there was 1 chance in there I can seem to remember to change your team up and I want to say it comes maybe a third of the way into the DLC.. Maybe that what was meant when "There is one chance (and only one) to pick party members, and there are no shops to peruse." was said, but given the wording I kind of doubt it.
So, I do agree with the points made but it feels almost like I played a different DLC in some sections then what was written about. In Understanding these things are very "mileage may vary" I won't ever say this review is wrong, just that different people will pull different things from it for sure.
I do agree that Legacy never felt difficult, I still found it fun and engaging and tactically interesting.
Also, it's default male Hawke in the screenshots. Just sayin'
I ALSO PLAY AS DEFAULT MALE SHEPARD NEENER NEENER.
And if any of you play DA2 as female Hawke for Isabela/Merrill romance, **FACEPALM**
Oh yeah, Legacy. I enjoyed it, although I'm not sure how I like the Genlocks being SO different. They were supposed to be weaker than Hurlocks. But I'm glad they and the Alphas are back, whatever the case.
OH MY GOD THE CHANTRY WAS RIGHT! WHAT ARE THE ODDS?!
What really bothered me was the final battle. NPC pathing is notoriously difficult to implement well, and Bioware made the entire final battle dependant upon NPC pathing. You can do everthing right and your teammates will die because they can't figure out how to avoid fire. Even if you specifically tell them where to go, they can't get past a rock and meet a fiery fate. I ended up just letting them all die and soloing it (stopping to rez them when the boss became attackable). Took forever, but I did it.
