Dragon Age II breaks 1 million, provides free copy of ME2 photo

BioWare says Dragon Age II has sold more than one million copies in less than two weeks, and as a thank you note they are offering a free copy of Mass Effect 2 for PC to DAII owners.

Go here if you own Dragon Age II, just enter the code for the online pass that you got with the game (The Black Emporium DLC) and the rest should explain itself. Even easier, or if you had previously registered the code on BioWare Social but threw away the card with the code, just log in and click the "Lost my code" link to automatically activate it.

Activation should work regardless of the platform you bought the game on (it's a code after all), and apparently the free copy of Mass Effect 2 doesn't come with Cerberus Network access totally comes with Cerberus Network access and some DLC, haha!

[Thanks everyone who sent this in, and Max for checking activation protocol]

I'm downloading my free copy now.

I'm guessing this is an indirect apology for making DA2, right?

I haven't heard anything this cool since Valve was giving away Portal for free.

Except for the part where it doesn't include Cerberus Network access. Which means if you want the DLC (and thus, the complete game), you have to shell out for it.

I love Bioware, but this smacks of a ploy to pull in a few extra bucks off a game that isn't really selling much anymore.

Hmm,if i find a reasonable price I might get it for PC,even if I have ME2 on 360.

This is an awesome deal. The whole no Cerberus Network thing isn't that big of a deal... I mean, you're getting it for free! Either way, I might put up a contest in the blogs for my code, since my PC isn't anywhere near goo enough to run it.

Wow, you people really do know how to look a gift horse in the mouth. "Oh Jesus, they're only offering the -best game of 2010 for absolutely free-, but they aren't giving us some of the extra toppings that are also available on sale separately. THEY'RE RAPING US HORRIBLY"

@ Lenigod: I liked DA2 as well, even moreso than DA1. I simply prefer... "simpler" games, as I grew up on Sega Genesis and never really acquired a strong taste for Baldur's Gate-esque RPGs. I like BG-esque games just fine, mind you, but it's not up there as a peak example of game design for me...

@Lenigod I really enjoy Dragon Age II. I don't really see where all this hate comes from but it's the internet. People will bitch about anything.

I know right, I actually think it's a good business idea. Everyone that wants to have bought the game on any platform has had ample opportunity, so now you get a bunch more, all of whom will now get your download manager and a bunch who will buy a decent percentage that will buy some DLC. Bioware looks (and is) generous and makes a couple more bucks, win win.

Oh and it should be pointed out that some dlc game licenses do carry over between console and PC. None of the DLC missions like Shadow Broker and Overlord but pre-order bonus' and collector's edition stuff like the Blood Dragon Armor do since when you register them Bioware licenses it for all platforms.

@Lenigod: I think it's flawed but good. Solid 8.0. With another 6-9 months of development, I think it could've easily hit 9.0 and surpassed it's predecessor.

I liked DA 2 a lot, moreso than the original, but there are things I don't like about it. Bottom line its not a very good sequel to DA:O, but still a good game.

Also you don't need the DLC for ME2, most of it is one-off missions, Shadow Broker can be bought seperately.

Don't most of the people who own DA2 for the pc already own ME2 for the pc?

Loving Dragon Age 2. I'm on my second play-through, and I think I'm enjoying it even more this time around. As much as I cherished DA:O, I didn't realize how many frustrations and problems it had until I got used to DA2. I miss some features from DA:O, but DA2 is just a lot more polished.

I really can't wait for DA3. The setup is there for something really chaotic.

The only issues with DAII were the reused environments and lack of a main antagonist. That's it. Everything else was on par or better than DA:O.

Perhaps you can get a copy of DA2 if ME3 has a better launch. Good luck.

If you totally lost your Activation Pass and never activated it (wife thought it was advertizing), just call them. They will give you one free Mass Effect 2 that you will be able to download from their download manager.

They got great support... im surprised

Wait wait wait, so Bioware are giving people a vastly better game for buying an awful one? I'm not actually sure what to think any more.

In before ME3 doesn't have talking because they needed to streamline it.

I'm enjoying myself with it quite a bit too. I can see the things people seem upset about but none of them are stopping me from having a great time with it. I dare say I might be liking the sequel more because of the streamlined combat alone, I'm thrilled not to be consistently pushed away from the enemy I'm fighting by overeager NPC's like I was in Origins.

@Amtaix

The lack of a main antagonist actually is part of what made the game so well done (in terms of the story). Gameplay and design wise, I feel DAII was a step back compared to Origins. Rushed and overly simplified. Streamlining I felt worked for Mass Effect and made it a better game in almost every way. It didn't work as well here.

It's still a great game and I feel the story was better than Origins.

Cerberus Network access is included:

Does my copy of Mass Effect 2 include the Cerberus Network content?

Cerberus Network is included and will be entitled to the account used to redeem your Dragon Age II Online Pass. This includes Zaeed - The Price of Revenge, Cerberus Weapon and Armor, Normandy Crash Site, Cerberus Arc Projector, and Firewalker Pack. Visit the offer page to download the necessary files.

From http://dragonage.bioware.com/me2offer/

If it is not included currently it must be a bug.

I loved DA2, moreso than Origins. It's a great game. Yes it has its issues, but no more than Origins did. I guess after the near-perfect ME2, people expected DA2 to be absolute perfection and are upset they didn't get it. Seriously, FFXIII got less criticism than DA2 did. That's not right.

I couldn't get into Origins. Tried and tried and it just didn't happen for me. I'm in the 3rd Act of Dragon Age II and totally enjoying it - so much that I'm rethinking starting up Origins again and completing it.

I already own Mass Effect 2 for the 360, but come on people - free is free. You're being given a handout and you still want to bitch. I'll be downloading it on PC and giving it another run. I like free stuff. :P

Going to send the Mass Effect 2 code to a friend who for some reason hasn't played that amazing game yet.

This is more of a marketing tactic to try and get people to play Mass Effect 2 who might not have already played it. That way, if they like it, they may be more inclined to buy 3 when it hits later this year.
