Dragon Age DLC 'Darkspawn Chronicles' detailed photo

Possibly forced by Microsoft's hand after it was revealed yesterday, BioWare and Electronic Arts have dropped details on the once-mysterious "Darkspawn Chronicles" DLC for Dragon Age: Origins.

The DLC puts players in the boots of the Darkspawn, playing as the army of the Blight, and enslaved by the will of the Archdemon. Focused on an alternate history in the game universe, the game begins with the player dying during the "Joining" ceremony. The Grey Wardens are now ruled under Alistair's command; you'll control a hurlock vanguard, with the ability to "Enthrall" and recruit any darkspawn you encounter.

If you don't know what the hell any of that means, no worries. Why would you play the DLC if you're not already familiar with Origins? And if you are, you'll be happy to learn that the completing the DLC will unlock a special darkspawn item for use in Origins and Awakenings.

"Darkspawn Chronicles" is out on May 18, and will cost 400 MS Points for 360, 400 BioWare points for PC, and $4.99 on PlayStation 3.

Um... what? I hate to judge, but... this does not sound like BioWare of old. I kind of really hate DLC.

I think I'll pass.

Awakening is way too expensive.
This sounds bad-ass.

Sweet! Now all I have to do is beat the original Origins and then all the freaking DLC I haven't played.

Thia will probably last 15 minutes based on how cheap it is.

I never bother with DLC but with Dragon Age I made an exception since I enjoyed it so much. I got all of them and they were all a huge let down in my opinion, oddly enough the most interesting was the Stone Prisoner and that came free because of a code with the disc. They were all too short and didn't add enough to be worth the price. Yes Wardens Keep got you a stash, but I played the PC version and already had a stash in my camp because of a mod.

This new DLC sounds like what I've always known DLC is but forgot about with the earlier Dragon Age ones, DLC = cash grab =/

Yay, more Dragon Age hack and slash DLC. Just what I wanted. Sigh.

@Uzzy - Any excuse to play more Dragon Age is a good excuse IMO.

@Aurain - In terms of bang for your buck, Awakening is actually a fairer price than the DLC mini-missions. And keep in mind that you can buy Awakening on a disc, the price of which has been dropping steadily. I picked up Awakening on Amazon for $28 last week, even though the DLC remains at $40.

Whats nice about the Dragon Age DLC is that, for a game that warrants several 20-40 hour playthroughs, DLC gives you something new and exciting to look forwards to on your next trip through.

I picked up Wardens Keep and Return to Ostagar and it was enough to keep my characters doing something new and exciting my 2nd and 3rd times through.

I was hoping for more Darkspawn to kill but alas no more. This will surely suffice for now.

Tempting, but I'll definitely wait to hear reviews and word-of-mouth. The characterizations and party banter were a big part of the reason I dug Dragon Age, but it's kind of hard to imagine Darkspawn being as likeable or engaging - and I say this as a person who loves creepy creatures.

Interesting. Sounds neat. I love everything DA so it will be cool to play as the Darkspawn.

Sounds like a brilliant concept, but for the price I'm doubting it'll be a lengthy addition.

I hope you can customize the Hurlock to make me feel like I'm playing my own character rather than a cut and paste darkspawn. At least let me change the tint of the armor!!

I really love that rarely used device in games where after completion you can replay part of the campaign from the perspective of the antagonist. It's gimmicky as hell but there's something about it that I always find exciting. That makes this sound cool to me even though it'll probably be too short, etc.

Sounds like a nice dlc, but the price suggests that it isn't. Maybe they'll surprise us.
I don't understand why people complain about the dlc, don't get them if you don't want them.
I liked all dlc:s of DA compared to Mass Effect's shit. But it's only me.
Well perhaps Awakening was a bit expensive, but great add-on still.

Well, with all respect, I do not think the Phaistos Disk has to be something from the Trojan era since it dates back no less than 1000BC. I think it must have been written by civilizations from other celestial systems such as the ones described in the Ancient
