Dragon Age Collector's Edition revealed, packed with stuff photo

Retailer GameStop has revealed the contents of the upcoming Dragon Age Collector's Edition for both Xbox 360 and PC, and it's absolutely stuffed with content.

Here's what you get:

  • Fancy tin case
  • Bonus DVD (making of documentary, soundtrack, trailers, wallpaper, concept art video, strategy and tips)
  • A cloth map
  • 3 pieces of exclusive in-game content: Bergens Honor, Grimoire of the Frozen Wastes, and Final Reason
  • Additional in-game content -- The Stone Prisoner, an unlockable bonus quest and an unlockable character, Shale
  • An unlockable item for Mass Effect 2

Yeah, you read that last one right -- an unlockable item for another BioWare game, which will be useful assuming you plan to also pick Mass Effect 2 up. This Dragon Age/Mass Effect 2 tie-in should look familiar -- a survey we reported on awhile back hinted at something similar.

The package will run you $74.99 for the Xbox 360, or $64.99 for PC. We know you guys can't resist a cloth map, but what do you think of the other extras?

[Update: The Dragon Age Collector's Edition will also be available for the PlayStation 3. It will go for $74.99 and come with the same extras.]

bleh. Could I get a configuration of that without the dvd and the clothmap? I could barely careless about that stuff.

Digital goodies: yes, please.

So when's this thing come out anyway?

That's a badass cover. And those sons of whores, they had to go and entice me even more with ME2 content, which makes it a must buy for me even though it'll probably not be that big of a deal. Yet, there it is. Cloth map, though, woot! And an extra character sounds pretty damn cool with that quest line. Better then the usual half inch stupid toy collectible they give sometimes.

I misread the extra character's name as "Steve" and got excited for some reason.

I dig it. Normally I prefer more in the way of physical goodies in my CE's, but I think this is priced just about right for it. Be nice to know the exact scope of the extra content, though.

Bioware: "We don't need violence to sell games"

Bioware: "Check out our really cool collector's cover with a bloody-ass sword on it! Blood is even oozing off the side!"

Not much of a price increase, and I was planning on buying it anyways.

Sold.

Digital goodies yes... other stuff.. eh. Though I wonder if the PS3 version will even have a Collector's Edition? (It would obviously not include the Mass Effect bonus)

I don't normally spring for collector's editions, but I do like the sounds of this one. I'll have to consider it, but I'm so damn cheap.

The Mass Effect shit has no effect on how badly I want to play this sexy, sexy game.

While they can sound like extra items, are they? Cause they sound like locations or quests to me.

Not even that could get me interested in this game.

The item in question was revealed on another blog as something that lets you, and I quote, "engage in space orgies."

YEAHHHH This is the new sh...... !!1!! WHAT ! No Marilyn Manson CD packed in!?
Bioware WTF ! Pumping me up with that trailer while the game is totally different than you show people. Seriously if this game doesn't have Manson and EA Trax support I'm out !

On the subject, nice box, probably gonna get it on PC and not on PS3, same for Mass Effect. Baldurs Gate 2 Shadows of Amn is still my most memorable game of all time so I'm literally CRAVING for a new AD&D like experience from Bioware.

Cloth map! Cloth map! Cloth map! Cloth map!

I recently just filled out a Bioware survey regarding an unlockable ME2 item coming with Dragon Age. I think the choices were an exclusive weapon, armor piece, party member w/ mission, errrr I can remember anymore but there were 7 items they were considering.

Hey! What gives?! No PS3 version? I don't give a fuck about that ME2 item, but that other stuff sounds pretty sweet.

Yep, I will be getting this. The Mass Effect 2 content pretty much sealed the deal.

@Jim Sterling: Same for me. Also just noticed the PS3 version for the CE on the GameStop site. Whoops.

Still, even if the ME2 item is just a code you put in, as opposed to actual DLC it's still pretty stupid to give it away in the PS3 version too. Ask BioWare, and they'll say it's because those same PS3 owner's may also have a 360.

I suppose it's good on there part to consider those that do own multiple platforms, but it's only a matter of time before Sony fanboy's tack this on to there list of reason's why ME will eventually come to PS3.

Are you serious? An unlockable item for another game, and an unlockable character?!

How will an unlockable character even work? I can't imagine much of the VO budget would go to a Collector's Edition-specific character, much less allow them to create any significant content or story/quest tie-ins certered around said character. So basically it will be a worthless, personality-less, combat-centric addition to your party. Just what a true RPG needed.

And unlockable content in another game altogether? I knew Bioware sold what was left of their soul when they whored themselves over to EA, but I figured it would take more than a year for it to get this bad.

" A cloth map" Oh man comes with a mapkin! Hope it's as cool as the Neverwinter Nights one, which was very much useless, but very effect on my cheese puff stains

Silellak: This isn't the first time Bioware has had an unlockable character as a bonus. If you pre-ordered the "limited" edition of Jade Empire you got a exclusive character and weapon(iirc, the content came on the 2nd disc and you had to install it). And you seem to assume that this unlockable character is a last minute thing. Chances are that this characters(and there Dungeons) was originally planned as DLC.

Also, TI don't see much of a problem with including some unlockable for another game. It's pretty much the same thing some GBA/DS games have done in the past. It'll probably just be some weapon or a piece of armor that will have no really impact on ME2.

I was sold on this anyway. Extra in-game doohickies and ME2 content just sweetens the deal.

I hate it when you have to buy the collectors edition to get the real game. But I'm still considering getting it.

$15 is pretty spendy, considering that I don't give a shit about a fancy tin or cloth map. I would probably only be interested in the DLC stuff, and is that worth $15? If they released the stuff seperately as DLC for those who didn't get the collector's edition, I probably would go that route and save a few bucks.
