Double Dragon, Speedball 2 vanish from XBLA photo

A few months ago, Empire Interactive went into administration following years of money problems, and it seems that the effects of the company's fall have spread to Xbox Live. Two of the publishers XBLA games, Double Dragon and Spinball 2: Brtual Deluxe, have gone missing, and it's unknown if they'll ever return.

Zoo Games bought most of Empire's property, but those titles missing from XBLA have presumably gone back to Million and The Bitmap Brothers. In order for the games to get back onto the Marketplace, another publisher would have to pick them up. However, the games are quite old and it's not looking likely that it'll be worth anybody's time and money.

Empire's PSN titles, which include Sheep, Pipe Mania and Carol Vorderman's Sudoku, are still up and running thanks to Zoo.  Thanks Christ for that, we couldn't live in a world without Carol Vorderman's Sudoku.

@Onlineatron

The Emotion engine is PS2 not PS3.

on topic, what about the people who already purchased these games? What will happen if they have to re-download?

Well...good thing I got it a long time back, just for the hell of it, I suppose. I am concerned about what could happen if I have to redownload it, though. In theory, we're supposed to be able to redownload anything we purchased, even if it's not available on the Marketplace anymore (a.k.a. "delisted"), but I'm still uneasy about it.

(Who loves orange soda?)

Check your download history in account management. It'll be a bitch to find it, but it should be in there.

@ Infininja

Ugh. My download history is full of thousands of demos, videos, games, add-ons, and every Rock Band song released to date. If I lose Double Dragon, it might almost not be worth checking to see if it's still in the history.

Update: I took the time to look through my download history on Xbox.com and it's still listed. Clicking on the name says it can't find the page, but I'm still able to add it to my download queue, so next time I turn on my 360, it should tell me that it downloaded it. So for now, you can still download it. I should note that various promotional things (like free gamerpics and themes for movies) have been not only delisted but their name replaced in my download history with something like "Content Unavailable," so it's entirely possible that Double Dragon could do the same thing, but let's hope it doesn't come to that.

@chronoswing

It's software to bring PS2 emulation to the PS3, read the link...

It's prob the most exciting thing I've read on the internet since E3 (yes I am aware I need to get out more =( )

I see, but isn't this redundant? The old 80GB PS3's already had PS2 emulation and it wasn't that spectacular. But I suppose that it exciting for those who got screwed with the later iterations of the PS3 with backwards compatibility completely stripped out.

Is it still possible to refer a friend to the Double Dragon game or something? I thought there was a way to forward some automated message from your Xbox, like "Hey, check out this radical game!" with the option to download it. Would this be a viable workaround if you have a friend who owns the game?
