There's a "remake" of Double Dragon II coming to Xbox Live Arcade this year, courtesy of the Korean studio, Barunsun Interactive. It's being called Double Dragon: Wander of the Dragon, because the sequels original title, The Revenge, is so 80s. Now, before I tell you anything else about this, go ahead and watch the trailer.
Okay… are we good?
Barunsun has ditched the 2D sprite visuals, instead opting to completely re-imagine the game from the ground up with 3D character models and a new fighting system. It's also decided to re-design all of the game's characters, including its iconic enemies.
So what's the same? Well, the game appears to follow the story of the arcade version of the sequel, which finds love interest Marian getting gunned-down by thugs before the game even begins. The 1200 MS Point Wander of the Dragon adds a four-player versus mode to the mix, a Survival mode, and co-op support.
Co-Optimus has a full preview of the game, which it says will be launching later this year. I'm just gonna leave this here.
I dunno about this one. I'm all up for another Double Dragon game, but something about an old-school beat 'em up smacks of Turtles in Time: Reshelled. Hoping that its good, but just skeptical at this point.
I hope that Details section is preliminary. Brawlers today just don't have the magic they did when I was younger. [Since Capcom has basically rendered almost the entire Final Fight in 3D via their fighting games baybe they should try a Final Fight remake.]

Let me tell you, when I think of old school beatemups from my childhood, the one thought in my head was always "Well damn, why don't they take this amazing game, 'remake' it, make it look like ass, add anime titties, and make the translation even worse?? It'll be amazing!"
Barunsun, do me a favor and don't call this game "Double Dragon II." If you change the ENTIRE experience of an old game -- even if you keep the story intact -- IT'S NOT THE SAME GAME.
The arcade version of DDII will forever have a special place in my heart. NES version....not so much. Yet another example of "same game, different experience." The NES version was a good game, but it shouldn't have been called DDII.
I don't get why people aren't excited about this. This game actually looks like it could be a lot of fun. The gameplay looks pretty damned solid, and even if they redesigned the enemies, Billy and Jimmy look great and true to the original.
If it's got online co-op, I'm biting for sure. If it doesn't, I'm still going to be tempted, even if I'll have less opportunities to enjoy the game with a friend.
I still don't get the hate for Reshelled. It played just like a TMNT arcade beat em up should. Is it because it's not a 100% faithful port of it's arcade counterpart? It's the Ninja Turtles man, I got what I payed for and it was fun. Atleast TMNT 1989 still exists on XBLA
I agree though, why is this 15$? Either way I'd prefer we got the Arcade version but I'll still give this a shot. I love beat 'em ups unless they play like ass....I'm looking at you Warriors: Street Brawl
Double Dragon will always hold a special place in my heart, whether it be from nostalgia or as mentioned here a retro Bias toward certain games.I have to say after scrolling down...It breaks my heart because i had instant flashbacks to TMNT:Reshelled...Nuff said their i think. Why do devs feel the need to make everything fully 3d. Should have just used something similar to the Super Double Dragon gameplay style with 3d-esqu characters on a 2d plane. I would love a new double dragon but it deserves better then this game probably will be, But I guess we can't pass judgement yet. What if by some strange miracle this game is good? We can hope
How hard is it to just slap the original on XBLA for $5 and optimize it so it runs decently? Usually companies are all about cashing in with cheap re-releases, unless we actually WANT them to do it, of course.
"The 1200 MS Point Wander of the Dragon adds a four-player versus mode to the mix..."
Quadruple Dragon.
Looks interesting. Definitely liking the remixes of the old music. I do
wonder why they said it was available to play now. Does "now" mean "later" in Korean?
bleeeeeerrrrrrp.. Okay... Last time I saw something like this is was TMNT Reshelled and it went horribly (arguably, since I've seen the sentiment be pretty polarizing).. And really? Wander of the Dragon? I don't think the game really needs the engrish after title when you've got those messy looking QTE's in your game that shouldn't be there in the first place..
Ahh, whatever, I'll say it: I wish this didn't exist
At least Reshelled was in the right ballpark. But this just looks like poop. And I'm not normally a naysayer like this but this doesn't even look like it's trying to be a Double Dragon 2 remake.
