The competition found at the Dota 2 International was fierce, but Na'Vi was able to pull through and take the top spot, in addition to $1 million in prize money. (Big money, big prizes -- I love it!)
Sadly, I didn't get to watch as much of The International live as I would have liked. The streaming times were not conducive to me getting a healthy amount of sleep. The good news, however, is that you can catch up on the action through a series of videos Valve has posted on the Dota 2 website.
Another International is set for next year; the specific date and location will be revealed at a later time.
@skyblade because they needed feedback from the pro players and they wanted to get people interested.
Since the core gameplay is basically done, this was a pretty good way to do it.
That's precisely the problem with having something like DOTA becoming a an "e-sport" event. Unless you know what every hero does and the rules and limitations associated with the game, it's hard for people who are unfamiliar with the game to stay interested; this drastically limits the potential audience of these games. That's why professional sports by contrast which have a low barrier for entry attract so many crowds.
Yeah, Starcraft 2 is a little more friendly to watch because the combat is more focused and a ton os units die in few seconds. With DotA, the combat is around 5/6 units and you need to know much detail of each one.
Ok, in SC2 you need to know the details for full undestand the strategy used, why go for such units etc, but is more easy to start watching.
I guess this was going to be inevitable, but it would have been nice to not have the winner in the title. You could have had, "The International is over, $1 million won" as the title. Here is the final match embedded, then hit the jump to find out the winner.
I couldn't watch the stream either, but I'm certainly not going to watch the replay now that I know the winning team =/
In terms of Dota being a good e-sport, I think it's a little unfocused with flicking between several units. I really don't think games with more than a 1vs1 work because of this.
Nothing egainst eSports. I love my Starcraft2 but Dota is such a snooze fest. I don't even want to talk about watching Dota because even playing this I could fall asleep.
On the other hand I liked the fast pace of Demigod.
