The next big Dota 2 update isn't available just yet -- it'll be pushed out on Monday, September 23 -- but Valve has the patch notes ready for you to scan, line by line. The First Blood update introduces local play, Captain's Draft, a Portal Pack, new community-created content, and your Backpack is now your Armory. A few other standout items from the notes:

  • Upgraded Items can always be disassembled within 10 seconds of the combine (same rules as sell back)
  • Item purchases can be made at the secret shop if the courier is at that location without selecting the courier
  • Control groups are now saved to the cloud, per hero, and will persist across games and disconnects. They are saved per hero
  • The quality of the item drops you are eligible for is now tied to your Dota profile level. You can see your current drop level in your profile page

For an absurdly in-depth look at the patch, check out Cyborgmatt's Blog.

Frostivus isn't cancelled! The Dota 2 holiday begins soon

Last year, Frostivus, what I assume to be the most amazing Dota 2 holiday ever, was CANCELLED due to those jerk Greevils. Then we had the "Greevling" instead, which was a decent alternative game mode for a while, though ...more

Dota 2 is adding a Stanley Parable announcer pack

Davey Wreden, the writer for The Stanley Parable, tweeted out that he is writing an announcer pack for Dota 2. We don't have any more details on it right now, but just the fact that it's coming is enough to get me excited. I love DLC like this. It's simple and fun, and it adds something interesting to the existing game. I would much rather buy a narration pack than a gun of +1 rampage.  more
