In 1990, Public Enemy released the seminal Fight the Power, an anthem consisting of four minutes and forty-two seconds of verbal fireballs aimed straight at The Man. While it's completely sans clock-wearing gremlins, the Dorkbot movement continues that message in a much nerdier, gaming-based, caucazoid form.
The above video comes courtesy of Dorkbot Vienna and extolls the virtues of circumventing the crunchy DRM coating present in every game since the beginning of time. From pinball machines to the Nintendo DS, our pasttime has been bought and sold by The Man since its inception and it's good to see some of our compatriots take back the night.
(Editor's Note: We would like to apologize to the Take Back The Night movement whose motto we blatantly lifted. This in no way demonstrates an institutional support of rape or rapists, and Destructoid.com would like to assure its stockholder that we staunchly adhere to an official anti-rape stance. -- The Board)
you're an idiot. truly you need to be kicked in the face. repeatedly. and then fired. how dare you misappropriate a gross tragedy like the massacre at kent state for (what appears to be) your amusement, and yours alone. look, i get being crude and tactless for the sake of humor, i do. but there is a line, and you crossed it. twice. and none of it is even funny! time to retire the lenny bruce schtick, you're not cut out for it. let the nonsensical european art students' lack of wit speak for itself.
unless youre into ds homebrew or random game machine hacking then skip the vid. i found it kinda cool but pretty long and dry none the less. the best part is the music homebrew demo at the end... that is, if youre into chiptunes.
This vid is both absolutely boring and at the same time strangely intruiging. If only for that guy taking it to the man with his MacBook.
Dunno about the Kent State ref, had to look it up with being post-1970's eurotrash and all. Don't see much problems with it, but this also doesn't seem like the place for policital commentary. Would it be better if he went with Tiananmen Square?
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
