If you are one of the many people who (rightly) loved Crackdown, then you might be thrilled to know that there is still a very real possibility that we could be enjoying a sequel to the much loved Xbox 360 game ... one day.
"It was a horrible, horrible decision that we still dwell on," said Realtime Worlds boss Colin Macdonald on the decision not to work on a sequel right away. "But I don’t think the door’s closed. Obviously, right now we’re tied up with APB and everything else, but hopefully in the future we'll have the resource and something can be worked out with Microsoft."
"We would have loved to have seen it. We poured five years of our lives into that game. You know, we've got guys on the development team that have Crackdown tattoos, permanent tattoos on their arms. We’re extremely passionate about it."
Sadly, Macdonald stated that for a small team like Realtime Worlds, sometimes you can't do what you'd like to do, and at that as far as Crackdown 2 went, "the numbers just didn't add up." Unfortunate news indeed, but with the first Crackdown being such a well-received title, it can only be a matter of time before we see a sequel.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Oh, but RTW... please address the following:
1. Real hand-to-hand combat: spin-kicks ain't cuttin' it.
2. A Real Story: Hi, I'm the end of the game. Surprise!
3. Fight evil agents: self explanitory
4. More customization!
It was an extremely redundant game with poor combat, poor platforming, zero interaction with anything, zero variation in enemies.
It's a good idea - "superman" in an open world, but it was executed poorly. My biggest motivation in the game was to find blue and yellow orbs. That's like saying the strongest motivation in mario was to find coins...or to level up in an RPG.
Looking ahead, it seems a couple of games are already taking the crackdown idea and hopefully taking it beyond skin-deep.
And the art style worked surprising well.
I love Crackdown
now if it was like POP/AC plus superpowers. that would be cool. also some melee weapons please.
and the lack of any story or interaction made this game soo bland.
also the ending was hilariously out of left-field
