DOOM returns to Xbox Live Arcade photo

After disappearing from Xbox Live for the longest time, id Software's classic DOOM has returned under the watchful eye of Bethesda. You can nab it for 400 Microsoft Points (Edit: I had said this was down from 800 Points, but I remembered wrong like an idiot) and shoot as many Imps as your heart desires.

DOOM had previously been removed from Xbox Live Arcade in October of last year, without much herald. Now it's back. So be happy about it, or complain for a reason. Just do whatever it is you crazy kids do.

Jumped on and redownloaded this as soon as I saw it available. Since my original 360 died and I had to swap hard drives, this and I think two other since-removed games could no longer be played when I wasn't connected to Live (my Xbox would read them as demos for some reason). Now that won't be a problem!

Why did they pull it in the first place?

Also Curious why Quake hasn't been ported to XBLA. That's a missed opportunity in my book.

T3HM0RR0W, it was originally pulled for licensing reasons when Zenimax acquired id Software. Then publishing rights went from Activision to Bethesda, and you know how MS loves to gum everything up with red tape.

@T3HMORR0W

id was bought out by Bethesda, and Activision published the XBLA port. They fought over rights/money, then kissed and made up.

@ Mr Andy Dixon

I had that problem too with some games. I think you need to transfer the license to your new hard drive. That should fix the problem.

@NotoriousBIG420

Yeah, I transferred the license, and it worked for every game except the ones no longer available on Live (like Doom).

Seriously, where is my downloadable version of Quake?

The Saturn version isn't cutting it anymore.

@RenegadePanda -- I've been getting my Quake fix on the Wii: Runs super fast and works great with motion controls. I've also been modding it on the PC for kicks. Love that game!

@tehmorrow are you reffering to the quake port on the homebrew channel? I tried and the motion controls were pretty infuriating to me as of last year

@Corey -- They take a little getting used to, but once you get the swing of them it's hard to go back to mouse/KB. ; ) There's a couple of ports, though; I think I'm using Q1 Rev.

Cool. Doom was one of the first XBLA games I bought and helped me get to grips with dual-stick shooters as I'd only been gaming on PC for over a decade. It was also the most fun I'd had with Doom since the original version.

Cool. I like DOOM, and $5 is less than buying Ultimate Doom on Steam... so yeah.

Doom just plays a lot better on a controller than keyboard and mouse in my opinion... Saw this came back up for people who'd already bought it sometime over the summer, kinda neat that its back for purchase again too
